To replace my Stormers for off road use only!
Nothing too serious to begin with ... but you never know!

ST's live on my D3 permanently at the moment - if you only want them for offroad use, STT's are better equipped - they have armoured sidewalls.

AFAIK Cooper are the only offroad manufacturer for 17inch rims.
As for the decision between ST's and STT's depends on what type of offroading your going to be doing i guess......

Thanks for all the replies.

To be fair, they are going on my off-Road wheels and I wanted them for 90% off road, hence STT's. But it would be useful if they could hold their own in the snow - If we ever get a good covering again . . .

Noticed some "debris" inbetween the rim and wheel of mine yesterday after Tong.
Thought i'd better get it out, so dropped it into Kwik Fit. They took tyre off, cleaned the rim/tyre and popped the tyre back on and balanced it all for £10.
While i was there, i asked them for a price for a new MTR for wheel number 6 that i picked up at Tong - firstly he said they weren't allowed to sell them, then when i showed him all 5 of mine on the motor, he said OK he could order one in for the handsome cost of £180 Shocked

Gonna phone round somewhere else tomorrow.....

IHi Ron,
f you are prepared to swap between wheel sets (like me) then go for the Cooper STTs. They're a bit noisy for everyday use (also I reckon they wear out faster than less aggressive tyres).

But of course you will want to show off your Stormers most of the time, so STTs would be ideal.
cheers

Yeah, that's the plan Rob,
Stormers for everyday use.
17's with STT's for off road - now the bug has bitten!!
Got my beady eye on some 17's for sale.

Do all reckon the STT is the best pure 17" off road tyre?

Depends on what size you're talking about. If you go to 265/70/17, there are more aggressive tyres available from Mickey Thompson, Interco or Maxxis.

Gordon

The tyre manufacturers tend to vary a little between stated (placarded) size and true size, particularly with the mud terrains. As far as I know, the largest diameter tyre that will fit with little or no rubbing (depending on whether you have a bull bar etc) is the 265/70/17 Interco Super Swamper, which is 32.5". Compare that to the Mickey Thompson 265/70/17 MTZ, which is 31.9", or the Cooper STT of the same placarded size which is 31.6".

Cheers,

Gordon
