Wheels / Tyre sizes and effect on smoothness |
|
Hi Guys,
I have 19inch alloys with Michelin Synchrones all brand new. I have never driven a D3 with 17s or 18s. I assume ride will be smoother the smaller the wheel? My D3 is a bit bumpy over uneven surfaces at speed and can be a little unsettling. I have had wheels all rebalanced alignment etc done and tyre pressures are spot on as per handbook. Do all D3s with 19s ride the same would be interested to know how ride compares with 17s 18s and 20s.
Cheers Googsy

I went from 17s to 19s and was surprised that there was not much difference, I feel the potholes / bumps a bit more with 19s, but not uncomfortably so, and I think it steers slightly more positively with 19s.

From 17s to 19s also . I thought 17s were a more comfortable ride in comparison. The 19's profile is lesser so hence I presume a little more bumpier ?.I feel that mine ( with 19's) is a little more steadier on the road but also noisier and steering not as sharp.

17" to 20" .. 20' - 100% better ride, (I likes a good ride i do )
regardless of the Rim size , in my case it is the tyre that has made it better. Grabber UHP's .
Discowex.. you got to get these next... no noise.... realy ... no road noise and just as Sharp if not better.
Give you a go on them soon

Totaly agree with Barry!
Had 40 profile Conti's on my 20's and ride was harsher coming from the 18s
Changed to Grabber UHP's and ride is excellent - like floating on a cloud.
And it looks meaty and aggressive for a road tyre - see Tong pics. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

only got 19's but had Wranglers, Scorpion zeros, MTR's and got synchrone road tyres now.
Scorpions best feel and handling, Synchrones smoothest and quietest.
Not tried other wheel sizes end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......

I've been looking for a supplier/distributor ( I admit , not too hard tho) Barry and no luck as yet.
Hopefully check them out at the meet in November
