Saw -9c for the Heelands on Monday night on the forecast, that'll get the old FBHs working. Glad not there though. Whistle

First one for this morning - but its not working (at least I don't think so)
Started the car, short drive - maybe 2 miles - switched off and could hear doing its thing. But no sign of smoke, opened the bonnet and felt the pipes and they were not hot, not even lukewarm I would say. I am assuming that shouldn't be the case.

This is my 2nd autumn/winter with the car, didn't really think about it last year so not sure if it was working or not.

Ive had a read of the wiki but instructions all say D3 rather than D4. Anyone point me to any instructions on what I could try to get it working or are the 'reset' instructions still the same?

So FBH is standard on HSE spec vehicles or all vehicles? I've been looking for a reason to invest in a discovery 4 and I have just moved for a swedish winter. Seems like the ultimate reason! Is the timed 7 day heater controlling the FBH?

SERIOUSYLY SMOKEY

Mine fired up this morning and being my first experience of this, it was slightly dramatic!
Set off early this morning for the Cannock Chase 4x4 trail run by the Forestry Commission and within a minute I noticed a plume of white smoke trailing behind me. My first thought was something pear-shaped had happened to the oil pipe clip I replaced last night having found it was duff and loose...
The smoke then got seriously thick and approaching a junction a guy shouted through his window "YOUR ENGINE IS ON FIRE" Shocked
I pulled up, got out thinking this is it my new car is literally going up in smoke. Big Cry
At this point I was wondering if the FBH had kicked in, leaked and set fire to everything. I went straight to check the FBH exhaust, whilst the guy who had yelled also pulled up telling me not to lift bonnet and that he was a Portuguese mechanic...and that Land Rover's are trouble Whistle
Anyway nuff said, my disco was not on fire, FBH working and we continued on our way to Cannock. It did smoke up again when the convoy set off on the forest trail, a little embarrassing as everyone disappeared from view in my cloud....

So why so much smoke? Maybe it'll clear after a few starts or does it need servicing/de-sooting/un-clogging??

Also does anyone know if when testing FBH with IID Tool, is it supposed to fire up? I completed prime and cycle, tool said successful but it didn't fire up??

A novice needs to know why

Ok so I'm new to D3 ownership I'm guessing my 2006 automatic S won't have this webasto heater. I pick it up Saturday and this was the first I'd heard of it. Is it really that bad as I don't want white smoke everywhere.

What models have it as I'm confused is it easy to spot

Don't be put off, it's a great thing to have! Think all UK D3's have them as standard, n/s front engine bay - you can see the exhaust in front n/s wheel arch. Some don't smoke at all, mine might need a service or running for a bit. The remote option sounds good too, Pete at Bellautos sells these, next on the ever increasing D3 list..

Dead easy to service as there is not much to them even if you step them down completely. Arguably the most simple combustion engine there is.

Mine worked perfectly as usual this morning.

Opening the door and unfolding the mirrors was a little more problematic however! Laughing

I was going to take a photo of the wheelie bin this morning but knew it was your domain!

Also not sure if a Swedish one is cheating - had about 10cm on today.
