I haven't really been following the threads, but from what I've read on page 3 (of this forum not the paper), it would appear the signal from the speedo ultimately drives the suspension down. Why not build a template of road speed v revs per gear, then frig the speedo sender by puting an inline switch into the signal wire so it can be switched on or off as needed. The system would then not see a road speed and the susspension would be overriden...and you could confirm road speed by translating the tacho indication (or use a GPS).
Of course turning off the speedo may send the transmission into a default mode, but should still change gears based on throttle input and engine revs. Idea

Wopac,
Sounds good except as others have tried all sorts of things and the one thing that stumps them is it seems to frig other functions at the same time. For the moment the shortened rods will have to do.
The most promiceing one yet may be friging with the resistance at the sensors themselves via a switch and some resisters, someone else is looking into this. there it a link to a Spanish web site that shows pictures of the sensors insides. Although they are esentually a variable resistor there seems to be some tracks the contacts run on a bit like the way a windscrene motor works. Never the less playing with varing the overall resistance may do something and if it does a suitable value rester could be switched in or out to lift the suspension to off road hight wile the computor thinks it is still at on road hight. but the same bonging and message to moove off obsticle when safe would occur as happins you install the short rods.

Whistle Thumbs Up Shocked Bow down Embarassed and possibly Very Happy

Aware of the Matzker soliuton - but way too expensive! If they dropped it to 200 or even 500, they'd sell heaps all around the world!

Neutral We keep waiting...

Maybe an engineering solution; rods that can change length?
operated with compressed air or small electric motor.

Hi guys,

Sorry for hijacking your thread all the time Embarassed Whistle

With regards to using actuators to replace the connecting rods of the height sensors, we have already investigated this option too on the Spanish D3 forum.

We looked into a few different types of electrical and pneumatic actuators that could have (possibly) done the job, but in the end they were all discarded....the idea of adding even more possible failure points into the system was rather worrying, but the main reason was cost.

We did find some reasonably small ones with the correct amount of linear travel needed to lengthen/shorten the rods the correct amount, however using electrical actuators of sufficient quality to withstand vibration and water ingress meant that the cost (parts only) was similar to that of the Matzker kit.

Add to that the control systems and it really wasn't cost-effective compared to just purchasing the Matzker kit and installing it (no added benefits and much more complicated/likely to fail).

In the end we decided that the simplest method was to simply shorten the connecting rods until we come up with a better solution (and one that is cheaper than the Matzker one).

Again, sorry that I keep jumping in with doom and gloom, but I hope it helps you out Thumbs Up

BTW if you do find anything similar, please let us all know and we can then use this info to continue our investigations too Wink

Rob Bruce,
What other functions? Are they serious losses?
I could live without the already inaccurate displays of K/100l, range etc, advised by the onboard display, the loss of odometer is also of little consequence, I wouldn't want to use cruise in an outback track situation, I can turn on the wipers as required, the safety systems still work...ABS etc, the only problem maybe with the transmission if auto, but can always use the default or manual mode. This mod is only for off road use? where ride hight is to be maintained due to the type of track, not for normal use. Seems a simpler solution to an occasional problem. But like I said, I haven't been following this and maybe I've missed some info along the way.

Not sure what other functions were affected, the work was been looked at by someone in the USA for a suspension specialest I had contacted about this. so no info was given. What we were after was to get the computor to think it was a coil spring car, then the easy part to rejig the system , replacing all but the airbags. The result would be a manual system cross linked with reliable better components totaly isolatable in the event of damage out in the bush.
So what I would like to see is a way of changing the computor to a coil car Bow down Bow down Bow down Bow down
This would then alow a better compressor that also could be used to inflate tires, stronger more robust air hoses, industrial quality solinoids etc etc and a simple switch in place of the paddle switch.
I am begining to think this is wishfull thinking Sad

If only someone knew one of LR's software engineers......I'm sure it can be sorted purely through rewritten code.

Maybe if we all write to LR they'll listen Laughing

I was tempted to trace the speedo pickup and just disconnect it but can't help think that traction control, dsc etc will be affected - and seeing how a blown bulb can cause the ECU to throw a tantrum Whistle

Yes I am sure they could do it if they wonted to, I also assume the computors are all the same just software changes or codes or tick the box in the program. So if enough ask LR we may get somewere , I would not be making these serious mods untill the warrenty is up.

Anyone seen this - apparently it's easy. I don't speak 'electronics' though so maybe one of you will understand:
