Yes they are reasonably chunky on the shoulder for a road biased tyre, certainly more so than the scorpions that were on those wheels before Thumbs Up

According to the Michelin website, they don't any tyres in my size - 255 60 18? Is that correct? Seems crazy?

Just spoken to a local tyre guy who says "... don't understand websites, but I'm looking at six of 'em on me shelf at the moment..." Excellent. They're quoting £157 a corner. However he reckons the Vredsteins (sp?) are the best value/performance on the market at the moment.... Think I'll stick with the bigger makes.

Thanks

Vredestein are hugely popular in countries with winter tyre rules so worth looking at. Other options for 18" wheels are:

ContiCrossContactUHP
Dunlop GrandTrekST8000
Goodyear Wrangler HP & HPAW
Pirelli Scorpion Zero
General Grabber AT2
Kumho KL51
Toyo Proxes ST
Bridgestone BR Dueller-Sport
Michellin 4x4 Lattitude Tour
CONTINENTAL CROSS CONTACT AT (255/65/18 so 3.5% oversize which is within limits but a possible alternative to the AT2?)
Vredestein WinTrac 4 Extreme

Be aware that some of these tyres are offered in a 108/109 load rating. You want them with 111 or higher.

Have to say, the Cross Contacts look well chunky, although I'm struggling to find much info on them (confirmation of size/availability). Continental own General Tire (who make the Grabber AT2) so all good Thumbs Up

I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Thanks again for all the help. Eventually went for the Michelin Tour HP. Very quiet on the road. Far less rolling in the corners than the Kuhmo. Feels a lot more precise. Don't look desperately 'ard, but they're unlikely to be used on anything more than a muddy field or a single track lane.

Thanks,

John

I think you will be pleasantly pleased with where the Latitude's will take you.......

In my view they are an improvement on the Synchrone, which was a very fine tyre; both are better in many respects to the Scorpion - not least in both wear and MPG.

You've made a wise choice

(Oh, and I don't think your tyre man was right....the Synchrone is not available as an 18" for the D3 as far as I know)
