DIGITAL FREEVIEW TV

Hi all

Please excuse my ignorance
I am after some info and guidance, i would like to install digital freeview. I already have a drop down roof mounted dvd player installed in my 56 plate hse discovery. I popped into my local car audio centre and they quoted me £1100 to install it, this included freeview playing on the sat nav screen and still being able to watch dvd,s on the rear player as well as being able to watch freeview and dvd on both. They said the cable alone would cost £600?.......is this correct and is their quote about right?.......I have not tried my LR dealer yet for a quote. I live in the north Kent area (Dartford) and so would be welcome to any guidance to any known reputable installers in my area if any are known.

Thanks

Dazza

The cable you are on about is proberly this one http://www.nav-tv.co.uk/show_products.asp?product_id=181
And yes its about £600 ..in fact it was £699.
All this gives you is another icon on the sat nav screen !!! it says DVD/TV and when pressed fooles the system into thinking you have the factory tv fitted .Then the lead allows you to add an input , wether it be a tv , freeview ,playstation or whatever.

So basically you are paying £700 for a button that you can select your freeview.

You can use the sat nav screen for 3 other video inputs but you have to select them in the diagnostics menu .This takes about 10 seconds to enter ...and say for example you were watching a video , you can still have the sat nav running in the back ground ..telling you the directions.

Have a look at this post ..its basically some one who has a drop down dvd player who has linked into the sat nav screen http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic475.html

At the end he has soldered the connections ..i have found some connectors that fit ..look here http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic6915-15.html

And info on the diagnostic menu is here .. http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic12736.h...ostic+menu

Any more info just shout as i have fitted dvd player , freeview and reversing camera to mine

I'm SO glad mine are old enough to be thinking of buying D3s themselves Very Happy

I took a TV, DVD player and satellite dish all round France last month, and never powered up one item once.... Rolling Eyes
