A Few Pointers
Hi all
I will soon be in the market for a D3 and although I know most of the nuts and bolts of early Landys I know nothing about later models. What sort of things do I need to look out for in a used D3? Things like hidden rot areas or leaks for example.
I'm targeting a 05/06/07 ish year and preferably and auto.
Any info would be helpful.
Thanks.

What to look for when buying a D3, and what are the common faults / things to consider. Here are the most common:
1) HSE is the 'top' model with most options fitted as standard. Other models are capable, and should not be ignored - you might not need or want all the toys, and paying a premium for them might be a waste.
2) Buy on condition rather than age or mileage. There are plenty of well looked after D3's with 150,000, 200,000 or more miles on the clock and on their original engines.
To read the other 48 points to consider:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/2079215127...221059908/D3 07 SE - still going strong
D3 07 HSE - gone to car heaven
FL1 - gone to Romania
D3 05 HSE - gone to a divorce diet
D1 V8 manual - gone but not forgotten
RR Classic - gone to car heaven
Jeeps, Lexus, X-trails... Too many to name..

Hi and welcome
Service history is the key, some examples, rot area brake pipes, leaks sunroof, check air compressor operation, other than that pretty robust chassis; look at many rather than a few. 07 onwards oil pump case possible problem had it changed on mine but the old one was ok, just a preventative measure on my part in fact most of the work has been preventative maintenance.
Tax bracket change on year type if that bothers you, meant nothing to me; fault code reader is a must have, also have the cam belts being done? EPB works properly, loads of info on here and a great site. I read the info on here for months top to toe inside and out prior to buying and it really did help me. I even had to rebuild my depleted tool kit but sorted now.
Use the search function really good example tap in leaking sunroof and you will see.
The experience you have even early ones is great for you and will no doubt help.
I had none and a newbie still, but learn something all the time use the Mot checker to reveal some handy info prior to purchase, some fine examples on here for sale as well, this is a snap shot of info I could go on for hours. The one other thing don’t expect to run this model on the cheap it can be a Nightmare if you end up with a duffer, plenty of caution.
Good luck in your searchAndy
