Looks like I am about to embark on a similar journey, mines an SE so no dungeons and have a similar problem, top of the A post trim and headlining what it meets the A post trim is getting wet, also she carpet on drivers side. Wet patch is too high to be the A pillar trim clips plus I've already changed them so a look underneath the roof trim strip is in order, even if it doesn't look like a suspect the seam is going to get sealed anyway

So tonight I removed the roof rail trim and cleaned out the channel, sealant looks ok but have added a little more just in case, hoping this is the end of the water leak or at least this water leak.

The drivers carpet is very wet so vacummed this as much as I could but I seem to be getting lots of water on and under the drivers door mat just by the A pillar as well as wet headlining where it joins the driver A pillar trim

I cleaned my front sunroof gutters out at both ends at the weekend hoping it would solve the leak.....torrential rain today has shown me that the leak is still there! šŸ˜©

Think Iā€™ll have a look at the sealant as per this thread and see if thatā€™s the problem, fingers crossed!

Iā€™ve only owned my D3 for a few weeks now and I already love and hate it in equal measures!

Bit of a thread resurrection, My dads D3 is leaking, weā€™ve ruled out the sunroof and it appears to be the same place as Nashers pic.

However, we have the below when exposed. Is this normal? Again Nashers doesnā€™t have it?

Thanks

EDIT; It has rotated the image on upload. Just had a though of course that this could need to be trim and itā€™s come off?

My D3 suffers from the same bloody annoying leak. Like you,I cleaned the sun roof drains out. Couldnā€™t for the life of me figure out why it got wet inside the car sometimes and not others. Had my sat nag and stereo out drying etc and thought it had kaput my stereo unit until around three months of random suggestions fixed/ reset that ending hours of dismantling various bits of car.
My wife eventually suggested that the car only leaked when we park it facing nose down the slope on our drive. When I drive the car in and the nose points uphill no leaks. This would be completely in keeping with the spot you found your leak. For the last four months I have simply parked the car on the flat or nose up and problem solved. Now you have honed in on a spot I guess a liberal dose of silicone will be a cheap fix attempt with no real downside.
My car passed it MOT this week with no advisories so I guess it deserves some pampering.
I have spent two grand rectifying the bong on the dash which was a hollowed high pressure diesel pump ,fuel rail tank with rodent hole in it and low pressure pump worn all the result we think of Censored getting into the system via the rodent hole......it does run nice now though. Just the suspension bongs and lights to fix now and the whole travelling disco should be good....

Thread resurrection:

Iā€™ve got an annoying leak I canā€™t seem to find!

Iā€™ve checked the sunroof drains, and they ran clear. I thought it was a leaking windscreen, but Iā€™ve had that resealed and there wasnā€™t any evidence it was really leaking.

Iā€™m currently in torrential rain and the a pillar is wet, with a slow drip:

If I want to have a look at this seam, how do you remove the plastic strip?

Any ideas how to remove the front part of the roof strip, that runs front to back?

Going to have a look at this tomorrow

Thanks

Removing the top trim to check

@Robpenrose , did you get around to pulling the trim off ?
I've got a situation similar to yours as on the A-Pillar.

I'd like to pull the roof trim off to investigate , but don't want to end up breaking it.

Yes, i had the issue above where the leak was coming in between two seams. I resealed it and sorted the leak.

To get the black strip off, you basically need to remove the push in Xmas tree clips. You will need a trim removal tool (which I didn't have!) Once the clips are removed, the black strip just pops out.

There is a video from PowerfulUK which shows how to get it off Thumbs Up

Water leak

I have just got to the bottom of a leak in my D3. Replaced drain tubes (front) and although it wasn't as wet, it was still getting in. Then I noticed the roof trim was blowing about not held down by the clips.
I had some of the roof vinyl wrapped (paint peeling off) and the trim wasn't clipped into place properly
- the clips had snapped. Then I noticed that there are 2 bolts just above the front doors that have holes through the middle of them. I got the steps out and Tiger sealed the lot - both sides. Brilliant stuff, just like rubber when it goes off. I left them all afternoon yesterday with G-clamps on them. Absolutely solid now - heavy rain last night and the kitchen towel that I put under the driver's mat was bone dry this morning Smile

Hi guys

I've been struggling to get to the bottom of an exact same leak that has lead to most of passenger side interior being removed before finding the source šŸ™ƒ

So looks like out roof rail black trim removal is next to see if seam sealer had shrunk & cracked letting Censored water in šŸ˜”

Just to add that this topic helped me. I checked the sunroof by pouring water into the gulleys with the roof open and watched the water quickly drain away and pour out of the wheel arch, so not that. I partially dropped the lining and could see the drips along the metal at the top of the windscreen but couldnā€™t see any tracking from the sunroof so reaffirmed my beliefs. I had the windscreen replaced as I assumed thatā€™s all it could be.

Still it leaked so more searching brought me here. I stuck gaffer tap either side of the trim and carefully lifted the front until it popped up. Be careful not to lift to much as itā€™s aluminium. I tried to pull the plastic thing out but it snapped, so Iā€™ll be on eBay tonight.

There was all sorts of crud in there. I cleaned it out with a tooth brush and which spirit and the seam sealer was cracking open the whole length. Really I need to take the roof bars off to to complete the job.

Iā€™ve used no nonsense roof and gutter sealant and taped the trim away from it for the night to allow it to go off. Rain due tonight so fingers crossed.

Good luck

Yes the seam sealer had dried shrunk & cracked from windscreen back to start of panoramic roof šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø

I've dug all the old out & re sealed with tiger seal šŸ‘Œ

Glad that worked too.

Did you find a place to buy the broken plastic clips?
