^^ Got it, thanks... will respond when I can
And to confirm, if I have factory timed climate but no remote ability, will this require a CCF edit? Just trying to work out if this is a fully DIY thing or whether I need to find a helpful local chappie with the right tools

I was thinking I needed to reset the phone settings and start again, as in APN etc. I have spoke with Altox who have told me my issues are down to weak signal........it used to be fine so I guess the signal has got worse here recently.

Wow! Massive thanks to Beanie for supplying the unit so quickly... and for all the guidance on this forum. Sent payment on Wednesday night, received via recorded delivery on Friday morning.
I now have installed:
- Altox WBUS-5 GPS (controlled via iOS app)
- Dedicated wiring loom supplied by the shop (excellent plug-and-play solution in the D4)
- giffgaff SIM card (PAYG)
I ended up acquiring a GAP IID Tool to do the CCF editing myself, in order to enable remote control of the heater. A two minute job it turns out!
I haven't used the Altox temperature sensor or the manual push-button switch.
One thing I noted from the manual, which I hadn't seen mentioned elsewhere, is the mobile data consumed by the unit (over GPRS). I previously believed all comms were via SMS but most day-to-day comms are via the internet, unless selected otherwise in the app settings. The manual states typical data usage of 3MB per month, with tracking disabled, and 30MB per month with tracking enabled.
During testing I initially got fault code 84, (fault reading is another plus for the Altox unit) which is related to low battery voltage. Blamed my choice of power for a dash cam, which I've rectified. Now its a question of waiting for some cold weather to test properly!!

On a Disco3, is there any reason why the Altox unit cannot be fitted inside the main battery box? It's very dry, I think the sim card would receive a stronger signal plus it would save a lot of time running wires?

So take it it’s handy fitted to the D4 if there’s a loom available?

They can be fitted here, the concern though is about moisture build up from condensation due to heating and cooling from the engine, the unit has a SIM card slot therefore it’s not a “sealed” unit Altox GSM FBH controller thread
