Pirelli M&S tyres - any good for all year driving? |
|
Picked up new ( to me) D4 about a month ago and only just noticed it's got Pirelli M&S tyres
Are these ok to leave on all year round? They have plenty of tread at the moment so was planning on just running them down until new set needed . They have done 10k Miles but not sure how long they last D4 HSE - Aintree Green
D4 Orkney my13 - gone
Stornaway D4. Gone, Didn't like it at all
D3 silver manual. Loved my first LR

I ran the factory Scorpions down to 3mm of tread and they were good on tarmac, the D4's capabilities flattered them off road and in snow the D4 could keep moving but stopping and steering were rather more exciting.
I couldn't wait for them to wear out so I could replace them with some decent AT tyres. MY2022 D5 HSE D300 - with extra nice bits added
MY2019 D5 HSE 3.0 SDV6 - sold to a dealer for a crazy price! - So good I bought another!
MY2012 D4 HSE 3.0 SDV6 - retired to a new home

I've run these on my D4's and FL2's and as an all round tyre (all year round and use and occasional proper mud) they work very well. Out of the 200,000+ miles that I've done in LR's over the last 5 1/2 years, I must have done around 60% of them on these and they are my tyre of choice.
I run them to around 3mm and get 25-30,000 miles.
Unfortunately, with the road miles that I do and the wish to keep really good tarmac wet grip, poor (rather than appalling) fuel economy and low noise levels, AT's aren't a practical option for me. 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4

Rate the Scorpions as a standard fit.
Admittedly most of the time is on road and they are great, but when tested in snow and mud that came up to the side steps while rescuing a van, they really impressed me.
Could just be the impressive disco they are attached to, but have never let me down and so would replace.
Not like the Pirelli Verde that I had fitted to my Touareg R line - absolute rubbish tread pattern! Got stuck on wet grass twice!!!

I used to have the same Pirelli Scorpion Zero's on two of my FL2's and they were just as impressive there, so it can't just be the car.
I've used a Disco Sport for the day and it came with Verde's and they've been hopeless today, despite the car being only 1,000 miles old. They were very noisy and pretty frightening in standing water. It might just be down to the Disco Sport, but I had juggernauts overtake me on the M5 this morning! 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
