Wheel colour and AT tyre choice

Hi everyone I'm new here so If this has been done I'm sorry but I have not found the answer even though I have looked.

I have just bought a 2006 GS Disco 3 after many years with Defenders, I need some comfort in my old age!

The 17" wheels look pants so I have bought some 10 spoke 18" Cromodoras from ebay (yes they are genuine 940kg) and my plan is to have them refurbed and shod with General AT3's.

Now to the questions .... What colour is the standard LR wheel? .... What colour does the group feel is best for a 2006 silver Disco 3? .... Finally what AT tyre and size does the group feel is best for this car on an 18" rim?

If the car has tinted glass I would go with a graphite metallic or gloss black wheel with Duratrac tyres.
If the glass is clear I would go with a standard silver metallic paint - just my preference though - let us have some pics when you're all done...
Bonatti Grey with Tundra, Duratracs, DISCO3 sticker, De-badged then rebadged in black, EGRs blanked - still saving for IC and BAS remap...

Thanks jmarkha1, The car is pale silver not sure at this mo exactly which standard colour it is with standard black arches.... It has tinted windows with the most fantastic aftermarket tint on all the rear windows, the work is so good I am at a loss as to how they have acheived it.

I know what you mean about dark wheels I had dark wheels on my Defenders but they were both green in colour so it sort of worked well ..... Every pic I have seen with dark wheels on a disco 3 has been so poor that the wheels look as if they are missing!

Thanks guy's certainly food for thought but I have hit a snag ..... I did not know that the disco 3 (among others) is prone to eating rims!

So where do I look for non defective rims? ........ I know, "how long is a piece of string" but with all these wheels for sale and no way of knowing without whipping off the tyre and they are 200 miles away!

If its loaded my disco looks like this at the mo.

Note to owner ..... I must get rid of those "Granny steps"

I go off road every week, but travel c. 25k miles pa on road. Pirelli Scorpion ATR for me, LR branded now as well.

If I did a lot less road miles, I'd be up for the Duratracs though. Thumbs Up

Nice! ...... Please post five to my place Laughing

As I just posted .... I'm in a slight spin over wheel wear and where can I get four or five 18" wheels in spanking condition?

I have just bought 4 like yours for a cracking price but although not basket cases I am worried about the bead wear showing on them.

I've never had any wheel wear whatsoever in the last 10.5 years of Disco3/4 ownership.

I did 150k miles in my D3 HSE and used 1x set of 18" rims and 2x sets of 19" rims. The original 19" HSE rims as fitted, a set of used 18" SE rims and a set of used 19" FFRR rims.

I ran 19" Goodyear MTR's and Wrangler HP's, 19" Pirelli Scorpion Zero's and ATR's and 18" Pirelli Scorpion ATR's (my favourite combination).

Iirc, the wheel wear issue seemed to be mainly linked to General Grabber AT2 tyres.

I only found out about it today and its quite alarming ... I take your point about the grabbers but we removed worn out Michelin road tyres from the wheels I bought and there is wear for all to see.

I grant you not fatal wear but enough to make me stop and think hard as to whether I wanted to use them .... I'll post some pic's tomorrow.

I'll have a pair of 19" D4 HSE wheels for sale in a couple of weeks. I'm having the tyres removed so I can take photos of anything you want to see.

Ah, but did those rims previously have GG's fitted?
