Thanks, and yeah WMS Warranty company were really good when the crank shaft sensor went, but as I'd just bought the car the dealer I bought it from sorted the claim out for me (it was literally a matter of days after the car had been delivered to me that it started playing up) so I'm not sure if they needed to pay the bill themselves then be reimbursed.

I'm on tenterhooks at the moment, woken up feeling pretty stressed about it all, of all the times for it to break down this is possibly the worst due to personal circumstances, I really need a car at the moment! As well as the obvious time of year thing, all in all it's a bit of a nightmare! Sad I don't want to be too negative as it's not been diagnosed yet, but it did have the 'feeling' of something significant, and I can't help but be paranoid having done a fair bit of reading on crankshafts snapping etc! Shocked

Check out if there is any hire car provision on your warranty?

There is, for up to £20 a day for up to 5 days, but due to the time of year I have a feeling that the car will be off the road for a fair bit longer than 5 days, unless of course it's a nice quick/easy fix!

I do hope it turns out to be better news than you fear!

I must admit I am really starting to worry now about these issues, not helped by a drive to Scotland next week.

Thank you! I must admit to not being one to worry to much about the 'what ifs' - I know that being a member of a forum such as this can make certain issues seem far more common than they actually are in the scheme of things, so don't let it put you off your drive, taking your D4 up to Scotland at this time of year will be awesome I'm sure!

RST, do you have any car rental included in breakdown cover?

Ah, ok. Thought that was part of the warranty cover rather than AA/RAC/GF etc. Thumbs Up

Might be worth seeing if whoever is going to get all the buisiness of repairing the car has a courtesy car they can lend you over Chrimbo & NY. If this is worse case scenario they are going to get a serious amount of business paid for by the warranty co. Said car might just be sat at the dealer/garage anyway as they won't have much servicing work in between Chrimbo & NY.

So yeah, unfortunately it's been confirmed that the crankshaft has snapped and I need a new engine Sad

I've no idea how I'll go about this, as said it's under warranty but with WMS Group not with LR as I didn't buy the car from them, although I have used them to service it under my ownership. The car's with a local specialist who will be ringing WMS today to talk it through with them, so collective fingers crossed they agree to help me out.

Unfortunately I also lost my Grandmother last night so timing really isn't ideal as I'm over 200 miles away, I'm going to just rent a car so I can get back and again hope that the WMS warranty will help out, I'll forget about the car and deal with the funeral and try and have a good Christmas then concentrate on sorting this mess out in the new year.

They say it never rains, it pours! Sad

As a ballpark figure, anyone who's been through this before, what am I looking at to get the car back on the road?

Yeah it's just 'one of those things', but pretty bad timing all in all. I'm obviously hugely hopeful that the WMS warranty are willing to sort it out.

The garage I'm using are suggesting that they source an engine from a known specialist that they've used many times, which will obviously be a fair bit cheaper than buying new from LR!

Yeah that will be most cost effective. I've seen prices floating around on the forum of around £16k fitted new by Land Rover. Obviously if the warranty will pay great, but it's not realistic for someone to pay out of their own pocket.

I guess a used engine should be ok if the history is known, and some sort of warranty/protection is given.

Seems the biggest worry owning a D4 and it seems it can happen to any age vehicle at any mileage!

Good luck

Terribly sorry to hear about your Grandmother Robert, made worse of course by the D4 camshaft snap!

Thoughts are with you and I also hope the Warranty company and garage can get you sorted and with the least financial impact for you!

Best of luck!
