Fortunately never had an issue with the dealers, although serviced by the excellent Team Valley Land Rover, a long way to travel but great to deal with

Arguably, sucking in metal parts from the turbo to the engine isn’t engine failure due to crank breaking.

Engine fail ...shock horror
(just for clarification to all deadly serious individuals on the site ...I am laughing at Andrew ...not because an engine has failed )

Peakwayfarer wrote:How do I amend my response as the engine on my 2016 Discovery 4 has now failed catastrophically.
it required a new engine which was fortunately fitted by LR under the manufacturers warranty.
The car was around two and a half years old and travelled just over 20 thousand miles.
Any thoughts from anyone, perhaps one of the admins on how to amending vote on the poll from not failed to failed?

Hello from France
Maybe it would be interesting to do a survey on the brands of oil used. There may be more breakages with a brand of oil.
Sorry for my english (poor) and thank you google translation.

Ah well indicates the poll is irrelevant as despite a numbe of requests still not been able to update my initial response, which possibly suggests that this is much more frequent than the poll indicates!

Polls cannot be changed once you have chosen your answer, unfortunately .... I can always reset it to zero though to see if your theory is justified ...given engine failure rates have not changed significantly throughout the last 16 years ....I doubt it 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Before I always took the same view.... now not so sure.
Our LR / overlanding group of friend over here consists of 4 D4’s and 1 D3 between four of us. One D4 and the D3 both blew engines within a week of each other (last week and this week). That’s on top of two other D3 engines failing over the last 6 months and another D4 engine in last 9 months that belong to other folks. And there is an RRS sitting at our indie garage having a new engine fitted this week. Also saw a D4 for sale marked as a non-runner due to engine failure.
Luxembourg isn’t big....and LR is not a big seller in the country...That failure ratio isn’t good ! MY2008 D3 - It got me hooked...gone
MY2012 D4 - It kept me hooked...gone
MY2007 D3 - Mid-Life crisis toy continues driving me to bankruptcy...
MY2018 "D5" Si6 - But is it a "true" LR...discuss...but now gone
Back in a D4 with a lot of extras....

Mine is being diagnosed next week but everyone’s initial thoughts are the crank has gone. 133k and as stated many times before very well cared for. I couldn’t have done any more in regards to maintenance or preventative work. James favourite hobby is writing in the third person.

A friends 12 plate RRS SDV6, 60k or so on the clock, just paid out £2.5k on secondary turbo and cambelt service, 3 or 4 weeks after getting it back now has suffered crankshaft failure.
He had been talking about upgrading to a newer RRS, needless to say, he now wouldn’t touch another LR. Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Not sure if people have seen off the Facebook group but Watchdog are now investigating this so if you know anyone with a Disco or RRS that's had this issue make sure they get reported!
