Is this normal? Pics...

Still trying to work out my restricted performance gremlin :? . Just drained out some oil from the bottom intercooler hose which worked last time- but not this time. Incidentally, how does that oil get there?

So I've had a good look around and these pics could possibly be abnormal. Can anyone tell me if this is normal on yours?

This is the big hose above the turbo shut off valve (I think). It has a nick in it - just under the jubilee clip. Is this enough to cause problems (code 0488)

There is a tarry deposit on the Y piece between the intake manifolds. Normal?

One side of the engine (off-side in UK) is mucky under the foam manifold covers and one side is clean. To me, this speaks of some leak. Any thoughts?

Thank you all in advance!

Looks like you have a failed seal in the Y connector, and that turbo hose should be replaced too. I expect you will have no small amount of gunk in the manifold , so a good clean up along with cleaning the MAP sensor might yield some results.

How much oil are you draining from the intercooler? A small amount is acceptable, or better still none at all!! If there is a large amount it would indicate poss turbo seals failure and / or crankcase ventilation issues.

It has pinged up a red triangle both times, the day after a longish motorway run at about 75mph. I've drained about 25ml today and about 50ml last time. Could this be the long turbo drain pipe that needs replacing with the shorter one? I'm a bit lost on this one so far!

Without reading the codes it's a nightmare to deal with. Get the codes read and we can go from there.

Gotcha!

After staring miserably at the uncovered engine for some time and poking around under the foam manifold covers looking for cracks, I noticed the small bore braid-covered vacuum pipe that goes from one bank to the other was perished at the connector leaving a crack. I followed it across the engine and...voila! Completely sheared off from its connector! Don't suppose anyone knows the part number for this?!

Thanks for all the help and advice. Let's hope this is the problem!

cheers

might as well look into replacing that inlet pipe to secondary turbo valve as per your previous ictures:
