FBH Disconnected
Hello all.
The FBH on my 2006 D3 has been disconnected by the previous owner. The electrical connectors is still attached but the coolant hoses have been removed. I think the fuel line is still there but I haven't tested it.
Firstly, why would someone have bothered to do this? Surely if it wasn't running, they would just have left it attached to the coolant loop.
I'd like to reinstate it. Other than reconnecting the hoses, and resetting it with the IID, is there anything else I need to do?

A concern if it is still wired up (2 connectors - 1 power, 1 data) and fuel is connected that it has been running or has attempted to run with no coolant
It may have been an aborted swap/service of the FBH; some people on here have also said they don't like the idea of it consuming fuel and want to disconnect it. Although doing it via the coolant loop is odd.

I would have thought up your end of the country its would be considered an essential item?

Well yes. It does get a bit chilly up here sometime! I bought the car way down country so it probably wasn't an issue there.
I've had a good look at my FBH today. The fuel line and electrics are still attached. There's no sign of the coolant hoses.
Where should the coolant hoses go from the FBH? I'm also missing the hose which loops from the heater unit to the attached coolant pump.

I've been poking around further to try and work out where my coolant hoses should be.
As I've mentioned earlier, my FBH is completely disconnected from the coolant loop. After removing the lower viscous fan shroud, I found two coolant pipes which appear to have been joined together with the short u-pipe off the FBH.
What do you think? Should those two pipe go up to the FBH?

Old post revival.
I've now reconnected my FBH to the coolant circuit and replaced the fuse which had been pulled. It appears to be working correctly now, surprisingly.
Question is: should my IID BT be able to test the FBH? I can't see any options anywhere on the IID menu relating to the FBH.

Yes it can test the fbh but dont ask me how as mines been fine, but Im sure Ive seen the option to run the fuel pump etc, probably under the interior heating a/c section?

Service/test menu then aux heater
Prime routine with ingition on then test which will prompt you to start the engine
Probably will make a lot of smoke!

Nothing really just excess smoke when it next starts, the prime does exactly what it says to get the fuel up to the heater quicker after repair or long time none start as once the thing has done a few false starts and cannot fire up it locks itself out.
No fuel = no flame = shut down, with your coolant pipes disconnected it probably tried to start a few times, saw an overheat situation and locked itself out.

Thanks for the replies guys.
FBH seems to be working well. Firing up when it should, no excessive smoke or smell.
Oddly though, my IID is not giving me any option to test it. Under 'Service/test' there's no 'aux heater' option. Any ideas?

Maybe as the iid tool is vin locked, yours didn’t originally have a fbh fitted, so it won’t show on the list.
That’s the only thing I can think of but I thought that all TDV6 D3’s had a fbh fitted.

Don't think that can be it Steve, the car always had the FBH, it was just disconnected both electronically and from coolant circuit.
