FBH Fault help please

My FBH has been playing up for some time so I decided I wanted full control over it so yesterday I had Beanie fit an Altox unit and I can now control it via the excellent APP.

The problem is it starts fine smokes away for a bit temp on app goes up to about 50c within 2 minutes but after 2 minutes it stops regardless of how long I have set it to run. It was only running for a minute or two before the Altox was fitted by the way.

When running it seems strong and efficient so fuel must be getting through. Beanie primed it a few times and we got clouds of smoke and strong running but not for more than about 2 minutes.

The only fault code being set is "No Flame on restart" or something similar (from memory) so any ideas please chaps?

PS: You can use the APP to check your battery voltage from your bed...

Sounds like it may be sooted up inside, and the flame can't be held in a stable fashion. The FBH hasn't transitioned to running within the 2 or so minutes that you say it stops in.

Unfortunately priming it makes it worse, as the smoke is indicative of over-fuelling, and over-fuelling causes the soot.

Priming should only be used when fitting a new or known empty (of fuel) FBH, to reload fuel into it.

The one on my D3 did exactly what yours is doing, wouldn't stay on more than a minute or two. I switched it out for a new unit from Dan @ Duckworths when they were available, but I stripped the old one down, removed the soot and then ran it on a test bench and it was fixed.

This problem is well documented here and others have used other chemical methods to remove the soot without dismantling the unit. Have a search Smile

Hi Gary, if you have a can of air duster, may be worth blasting that down the air inlet (crinkly pipe) after about a minute, or if you fancy it blowing down it, could be starving itself for sur, don't think it is as if was drawing air well yesterday when it was forced to run??

Yes but it is it get quite hot quickly and smokes a bit and APP show temp increasing fast then it stops and I get the error message. I assume this is the unit trying to RE START rather than start in the first place?

Will Diesel additives help?

Gary, I'm just passing on my experience and I have been in exactly the same situation.

I appreciate it is getting a bit warm (it's burning diesel after all) but the FBH's strategy is not happy that the flame is burning properly/fully/whatever and shuts it down.

just found this by googling the Hawkeye code...


Unfortunately we don't have Redex here in Norway....

Anyway I made a new breakthough today based on the ansver from 4b4.

After sucessive trials with clearing out faultcode B1D29 and attempting to run the FBH, it shut down after a couple of minutes every time.

Then i used an air compressor with a blower gun into the FBH air intake, and kept blowing after the FBH started...

Appearently with the airgun blowing, the FBH kept running and fault code B1D29 never apeared. I managed to give it at 20 min run until the engine was warm without any new fault codes.

Hopefully this has "de-glazed and cleaned out the residue" inside as proposed by 4b4. I am looking forward to tomorrow morning, it is prognosed -18 degrees...... Cool, so guess I will get the final verdict of the FBH. Wink

You say it goes to 50 degrees in 2 mins. Is this on a cold engine?
Sounds too quick.

No idea how to check but no code to say so. I think Martin is right its coked up needs a clean hoping can be done without an overhaul.

I assume the temp is in the fbh not the cooling system as a whole.....
