What diff gear oil is everyone using on their D3's?
Wondering what everyone likes as a diff gear oil?

I stick with the LR oil for the transfer box but use Syntrax for the diffs.
I don't think it will do any harm but the transfer box oil spec seems to be a closely guarded secret.
Sorry just realised you were asking about diff oil!D4 2016 Landmark, Waitomo Grey.
D3 2005 HSE, Bonatti Grey, now sold but still comes back for servicing.
Defender 2002 Td5 Commercial, had a hard life but slowly being restored.
I only work so I can afford to repair my Land Rovers!

I think I used castrol syntrans 75/90 which may be the same as syntrax shown above, either way its been fine for two years so far

Syntrax long life 75W-90 I think is the equivalent to the prescribed SAF-XO. If the rear has a limited slip, then you shouldn't use the Syntax: correct spec is Castrol SAF Carbon Mod Plus: I think the current equivalent is LR019727. Which is also known as CASTROL DIFFERENTIAL BOT 720 FULLY SYNTHETIC

Hi all,
I recently changed the transfer case and diffs oils to the specs.
Front Castrol SAF-XO 75-90
Rear (locking) Castrol BOT 720
Transfer case land rover special oil.
Did it because a was have diff chatter when locked on hard surface.
Now the chatter seems less but it's still there.
Is just normal???

can you use Any API GL5 75w90 even semi-synthetic
reason being I still have 3l of this oil and thought an early change before the 10Y requirement

I've never been convinced by the 'special LR oil'. LR don't blend oils and they don't make the transfer case either - Magna Steyr have that honour and specify the oil required. I avoid the Land Rover tax and buy the stuff at half the price from one of the other major brands.
