I'm currently waiting for my new Disco.....I wannit now!!! .... but while i wait have been enthralled by the wealth of info on this site. Would be interested in comments on the worth of the LR GPS system - would have liked it, not just for nav but also for the 4wd info but to b....y expensive!
Does anyone know if it is possible to retrofit this system (the dealer says no..) ?
Is it possible to load decent off-road maps on the LR system - I get the impression that only LR software can be loaded ?
Has anyone tried to access the 4wd drive info to display it on an after market system ?
Currently using a Co-Pilot live system on an IPAQ but an integrated system with a larger screen and the LR functionality would have been nice in theory but sounds limited for off road use and expensive to buy and update.....??
Any comments/advice welcome Have my new year Disco..! Atacama Sand, active diff, active headlights, hi-ice, cooler, sliding loadspace floor, window tint, MP3, Mantec plate, roof rails, mud

Welcome Andy.
Nothing is impossible but you may have to pay a very hefty tag to retrofit. Think there might be a thread on it somewhere here but I think it for all prac. purposes a no go. Did you think I would leave you crying,
When there's room in my D3 for 7,

I can go just as fast with 7.

As far as I'm aware it can't be retrofitted as the 4x4 info requires it to be connected to the system via the headunit. Thus to retrofit you would need to replace the entire headunit and some other stuff as well.
But I could be wrong! Have a nice day!

Somebody in another post was told by the dealer that the wiring loom was different and this would be a major job to install. The 4WD display is only on the premium nav system as far as I am aware.
Personally I opted for a Tom Tom as they are excellent, have the speed camera database and are also cheap to keep upto date with new maps etc. The one I have also covers all of western Europe as well on one memory card.

I have a garmin M4 which is a PDA and GPS. plays my MP3s and I can run topo mps on oziexplorer as well.
a lot cheaper than the LR system.
Upgraded the speakers and fitted pwered subwoofer. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

GPS, Tyres and Towing Ratings |

Thanks for all the replies folks - if the comment about requiring the premium system is true that makes the decision easier - shame tho, as i gather it has some very nice functional features that don't seem to rate a mention in the sales blurb or from dealers - such as voice activation allowing a "Take me Home" command to configure a route for home on start up - tho apparently doesn't do the actual driving (next year perhaps...) but not I think worth $6000 - $7000 (and $650 for annual updates...?!?) .... will stick to Co-Pilot for now.
it's great having this resource for all the odd questions and problems that arise. It also helped make me feel less insane - going out and ordering a Disco after the earlier history and reputation - particularly Disco 1 and 2s; yes, I realise that them's fightin words to some people, but there were a few (!) problems and I still get funny looks from some friends when they hear what I've done (no visits from men in white coats yet...) but it is a fantastic vehicle with many great design features (access to spare wheel excepted). officially from LR's point of view, that is the rating but it is unofficially crap as many here including myself tow offroad campers without a drama and the LAW states a minimum of 7% of the trailers weight (as a minimum) to be on the ball so not outdated, a requirement which also makes sense.

Hi Cat...thanks for the comment - where does that leave you with respect to insurance and warranty - if you exceeed this LR rating...?
(Realised that should have posted this query elsewhere so original query is now under towing)
Also read an article recently casting doubt on the validity of the need for such high hitch loads - shall try and find it and post reference for further comment.[/quote] Have my new year Disco..!
