Tank range when towing

Hi guys
In my old TD5s I could start our annual journey down to Holywell bay in Cornwall from Jun 30 M1 on a tank full of deisel and easily get down there without a top up
Not done it yet in the D3 so not sure on the full tank range
How many miles can you all set from a tank full roughly
.Aware of the variables
Hills .Van weight ect
Has anyone done the trip from the North Notts area on a tank full
Cheers
Phil

OK it does depend..

my D3 last year towed a trailer with a Merc S class on it from the West of Ireland to Belfast
it averaged about 22-23 at speeds just below motorway ones
I usually get about 26-27 in every day stuff & maybe 30 on a steady run (4 to 5 hours)

it does depend on the roads, the hills & your speed
 BREXIT - done properly.

D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

I generally reckon on about 300 miles before the "needle" is down to a quarter of a tank when towing the caravan. D3 used to be about the same. As has been said, much depends upon terrain and speed and driving style, but M1, A/M42, M5 etc., you should manage that.

As above I plan on getting 300 miles. Plenty for me any more in one day is too much.

I found ....

All the D5's I had struggled up hills....simply drank fuel in big gulps

Don't forget to account for the D3's smaller fuel tank, 10 litres smaller than td5

I have just done a trip to Austria with a 1.3 Tonne single axle trailer (full) with 3 people and luggage in my D3.
Most of the journey was motorway there and back but the rest was towing trailers in snow. When in Austria we filled with Winter Diesel (rated to -30C) which is not as fuel efficient.

Total miles - 2537
Ave MPG - 22.99
Ave miles between fills - 422
Ave liters per fill - 71.6

England

depends how fast you want to go. Before the french towing speed limits (yes officer) I would regularly tow our twin axle 'van at between 65-68, but this would result in 17 mpg, so that times the capacity of the tank doesnt equal a great range. Even staying at 60mph only sees me just at 20mpg, and thats been the same with both D3's and both D4's
