Looked online at the Kodiaq but haven't seen one in the flesh, also looking at F-Pace. I've had LRs for the past 10 years so its hard to break the bond, though the current pricing is making it a bit easier. I really enjoyed my time with it, it's not perfect and won't suit everyone but overall I'm pretty pleased with it.
Tomorrow is really just a chat with my salesman and go through some figures, see if there's a deal that works for us both and if it's worth the change, I always go with a budget in mind which is comfortable for me, thats perhaps where it all fell down yesterday, I think they thought I would be willing to move more than I was on price, perhaps I was expecting a bit too much.
The S spec is more in line with what I have now, bar the SDV6 engine and xenons, so it should be closer in comparison.
All else fails my D4 still has plenty of life left in it, it's only 1 1/2 years old with 7,400 on the clock and will stick around until something jumps out at me.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

I was supposed to go and see a Kodiak 2 weeks ago, but the dealers never bothered getting back to me to confirm the invite - They were planning to have a LHD one in for a few hours, that was a bit disappointing as it looks great in the pics and decent price.
Glad you went back and took the D5 out J77, I'm sure you'll be as pleased as punch with it, it does look like a huge step forward from a D4 Iggy/Ieuan

It's not so much indecision, more priced out.
The only reason I went for the SE was to get the 3.0ltr engine and the LED headlights but, that was always going to push the budget. If it had been a Range Rover I may have been a bit more flexible with the budget. However the S spec suits me more both in price and kit level.
It won't be long before the modifications and upgrades start! I wonder if Led headlamps would be a straight swap? I don't think the 2L engine will be such a big compromise in the real world. Even most people who tow will probably find it acceptable with an average sized tin tent. I'm looking forward to people using it in the real world.

Test drive complete
very similar to FFRR (unsurprising)
but less roll and firmer steering - perfect for me
D4 always soft spot in our family live over 11 years - nothing like it
and the D5 is nothing like ie but a very accomplished vehicle IMHOIllegitimi Non Carborundum

The TDV6 proved to be pretty reliable as a 2.7L engine with a single turbo and producing less than 200 bhp. Only when the power increased with 2 turbos and additional capacity taking it to 240bhp+ did we see some dramatic issues with the core engine.
JLR are using a lot of forced induction to get an engine 2/3rds of the size to such power levels in the D5. I'm guessing that the claimed economy is only achieved when driving like a nun on the artificial test conditions where the turbos are effectively asleep. Driving it more normally will no doubt bring the true economy to that expected of a heavily blown small 4-pot motor.
I'd venture that private owners would be better served by the TDV6 if diesel is their choice. Real-world economy differences will be reduced and you will be avoiding the experiment of how hard you can push a 2.0L diesel.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948
Robbie, there are also crank failures on the 2.7, plenty of incidents in ZA.
but mostly turned bearings (?) on the 2.7--

Well, sat in the dealers for 3 hours playing around building the S spec car and after all that the original car is now coming, a switch of finance company, £500 more for my car, and an extra £500 on the deposit and the deal looks more appealing, its brought it down to the same monthly payment as the S spec deal.
So everything back on track, everything signed and sealed just waiting for delivery. I should at worst have it for 25/3/17.

Glad to hear that you are now all sorted I have just got back from Cupar following my test drive and I can honestly say that ................................ I like it
I stood at the back of it for a while trying to figure out what everyone dislikes so much about the back end/tailgate, but I just can't see what the problem is ? Not having a split tailgate isn't an issue for me as I've never used it as a seat anyway
It drove well, very quiet and less roll on the corners and certainly seemed quick of the mark when you put your foot down The only problem was that they didn't have an SE model available, so I had to drive/view an HSE which obviously wasn't much use to me, as the SE is very different on the inside.
Once they get an SE into the dealership around mid-March, I have arranged for an extended test drive so will make a decision then, whether or not to order one. One question that nobody could answer though, does it have a FBH as standard ?

Remote Park Heat with Timed Climate
This pre-heats the engine, channelling residual heat into
the cabin, so the vehicle is warm and comfortable by the
time you leave the house.
I think it probably an electrical heating system as has been on the RRS2 since it's launch
