Presumably much better for pedestrian safety than the D3/4? 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Some info on AEB [AUTONOMOUS EMERGENCY BRAKING (standard on all models)] and pedestrian safety.
"One major factor that influences pedestrian injury outcome during a collision is the vehicle speed at the point of impact. An increasing number of vehicle manufacturers are offering systems which are able to bring the car to a safe halt before a pedestrian is struck or which can at least reduce the speed of the collision.
Euro NCAP tests three crossing scenarios, all of which would result in a fatal collision between the car and the pedestrian if the AEB system did not intervene: an adult runs from the driver’s side of the vehicle; an adult walks from the passenger’s side (two tests are done for this scenario); and a child runs from between parked cars on the passenger’s side.
These tests represent critical situations that often result in pedestrian casualties in the real world. Cars that perform well can be expected to have a significantly reduced risk of pedestrian accidents in real world driving. In many instances, AEB Pedestrian technology may not be able to completely avoid the collision. For this reason, Euro NCAP only rewards the technology if the pedestrian impact tests show that the car has a forgiving front design." Peter

That is one seriously strong Discovery. I wonder if the Discovery 3 Ncap tests were at the same speed as it didn't move as much during the Side mobile barrier test. The Discovery 5 is pushed sideways a lot and rolls a lot and looks as if it could go over on its side, but in the below test from 2006 the Discovery 3 barely moves at all.

That is because it is crushing badly and that is not good!!
Probably one of the reasons for it's lower rating.

Oh don't get me wrong, I understand the 5 is far safer than a 3. But in the side impact, I presume stimulating being T boned by another car, the D5 is bounced around and the passengers get fired around a lot where as in the D3 it just absorbs the blow with a small amount of side movement. Without seeing the G forces on the passengers in both, it looks as if being T boned in the D3 is a lot calmer for the passengers. Of course it isn't comparing like for like as the D3 is far heavier and the test could have changed over the past 9 years i.e. The forces the sledge inflicts, weight and speed of sledge could be different. The slide into the pillar has changed as the car now slides at an angle so they cant be compared at all.

I understand what you are saying but in the D3 video it looks the the car is being badly deformed and the door is being pushed into the passenger compartment?
Not sure which is worse being pushed around or having a door pushed into me!
