Lower tailgate retractable cable - keeps slipping off |
|
Hi all,
At the weekend when I was loading up the D3 to take things to the tip, I noticed that there was only one retractable cable supporting the lower tailgate! The n/s one had shot back into its housing. I pulled it out and slotted it back onto the oily black metal 'ball' hinge on which it sits, but every time I shut the tailgate it falls off again.
I've read various threads on tailgate issues here including frayed/snapped cables but can't find any pertaining to this particular problem. Has anyone else experienced this? Not sure how to lock it in place... the clip doesn't seem to be cracked or anything.
Cheers,

I had this too - compare the little ball joints on both sides and you should be able to tell if the circular clip is missing. If not then take the clip off of the failed side and see if it is intact. It might need bending back into shape or a new one. Discovery 4 SDV6 HSE '65 - Projects in planning phase!
