Ok, so Ive just changed my rear diff for a new one. What I found unusual was the supplier didn't want the old one back. I thought items like diff's gearboxes etc are exchange.
Anyway now I have a used diff for a 2005 manual sitting in my workshop. Is there anywhere I can take it to get it reconditioned myself?
It was just some winey bearings so I assume these can be swapped out and make a perfectly good diff again. Maybe I could bung it on an auction site and recoup some money.
If it's genuinely no good for anything, which seems a waste, I guess I'll just weigh it in on my next scrapyard visit. Narpy Grill, tinted windows, Smooth leather wheel (TLO Group buy), ACM fitted (thanks TLO), Rear door loom and Row 2 & 3 audio switch upgrade, RRS 20" wheel change, 285 Cooper LTZ's Sat Nav Mod (until I get a Faultmate upgrade), Front & Rear lamp guards. 4x4 screen now switched on - Woody32, Follow me home reverse lights - woody32, Auto release EPB - Woody32. Off Road Navigation - Woody32. Remap + EGR's switched off. Full chassis clean and Waxoyl.

There is an excellent thread on here on how to fit new bearings with part numbers etc.

A UK diff specialist looked at reconditioning D3/4 rear diffs but found that important information and parts are not available from LR so decided against it. Series 1 V8
Series 2 Hibrid V8
Discovery 3 HSE V8
