Just had my renewal gone up from £349.17 to £433.92 I have business use, guaranteed like for like courtesy car for any claim, additional personal cover and all the usual extras with a Hastings Premier cover so I did a few comparison searches including on there own web site and got it down to £370 so I called them up and said I wasn't very happy with the renewal price, without pausing he said they would do the renewal for £345.92 happy days looks like they will be getting my business, but I thought I would check out A Plan the lass took all the details and all the cover I had from Hastings and said they couldn't match my cover for less that £500

Tell current provider
They will match or walk
Repeat every year

Funnily enough, my son (21 yrs) has just got his renewal through from Hastings, and it's gone up from £585 to £672. This us on a 2006 base model Fiesta 1.25, and is despite him gaining another years no claims. He's now got 3 years NCD!
I shall certainly be making him search the alternatives. This is the second renewal with them, last year it went down quite significantly from his original quote the year before.
Yes they do rely on apathy to make bigger profits, but some of them are obviously wise to the fact that people shop around, so leave it until second renewal before bumping it up.

After checking comparison sites, SWMBOs insurance was renewed with Privilege Insurance. Third year running. They did quote her cheaper than anyone else at £178, same sort of insurance your talking of plus business - NHS home visiting patients. Couldn't get it any lower, they said that was their lowest premium they did.
