AIR COMPRESSOR ON MY DISCO3 |
|
Hi all, Just joined today so if I'm doing this wrong please let me know!
I had a problem with my air suspension just staying at normal with red warning lights.
My local garage has replaced the compressor with a europart replacement rather than a LR genuine part. He told me it was at least had the price. The compressor works fine but is very noisy - it sounds like a tank when I first start the car. He says this is normal because the europart compressor is more powerful than the original.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Help please.
Regards
Malcolm

What make of compressor is it?- has the latest correct software been installed?
If everything is fitted correctly the compressor can scarcely be heard inside the car, you even have to listen hard outside to hear it. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I don't know whether the covers were replaced and I don't know what make the new compressor is. I'll ask.

Hi all, I went back to wee the mechanic yesterday. Yes he has replaced the covers. The make of compressor supplied by Europarts is Arnott.I quote from their brochure:
The AMK Air Suspension Compressor for the Range Rover Sport and Discovery 3 and 4 is manufactured by the same supplier Land Rover uses to replace the OE compressor. This maintenance free AMK compressor features a compact design which is both energy efficient and quiet!
He has given me three options:
1. Europarts will replace the compressor for free but I will have to pay the labour.
2. He could remove the compressor and Europarts will send it back to the manufacturer. If the ey find it faulty then they would send a replacement and pay for the labour.
3. He can replace it with a Land Rover genuine part at my expense.
I'm tempted with option 2 but it means the car will off the road for while.
I don't know whether he has changed the software? How is this done and would that really effort the noise which seems to be the only problem.
Regards Malcolm

hi mate
agree with the others , i've just replaced mine and can't hear it
ref the software it needs to be updated , a land rover dealer or maybe someone near u with the correct diagnostic machine
the landy needs to be told that a different type of compressor has been fitted
being honest i don't know why the garage is asking u to pay the labour , they've fitted it so it's under a warranty , 12 months min under the term fit for purpose
don't think that's right being treated like that , hope u get it resolved
has it sorted out all the problems, access normal and off road height

totally agree in what ur saying
wonder if its been fitted correctly , bolts tightened properly
know when i done mine is a bit of a pig doing up the bolts with the covers in situ
mines a dunlop , took a couple of hours to fit , also had to replace the relay and updated the software
from inside the landy can't hear it
the old one was very noisy because the bracket had broken and was vibrating against the chassis

managed to do the bolt up behind the compressor in the end
using a rachet spanner ,
lying underneath can just see it, but know the amk bracket is different
bought a new bracket , as it was broken and the bushes were worn
couldn't believe the difference when i fitted the new one, in how quiet it was
had to get out of the landy to hear it
found that taking the insulation out of the top cover really helped
then reinstalling it after
suppose everyone has there own knack, lol

Thanks for all your comments.
Yes the pump has fixed the problems and is working fine; its just very noisy.
The mechanic says because this pump is cheaper than the Land Rover genuine part then it is bound to be noisier. He originally said that the pump on the DISCO was underpowered and a known fault. They have since been replaced with a more powerful pump. The pump he has fitted is more powerful than the original and therefore will be noisier!
He said he could put some insulation under the covers but it may well overheat.
I think he did use the original covers.
trainmanone : Have you bought the amk covers and that has fixed the problem or have you left it without covers and it is still noisy?
Cheers M

gstuart: One other think. I'm sure he has a diagnostic device. Where does he get new software from? are these devices linked to the internet? Sorry for being naive?

I've left the covers off as all they are for is sound deadening ,I am going to fabricate a aliy shield to protect it, the noise isn't a bother to me so long as it works lol

I can answer something about those appreciations, since I'm already with the third compressor, original Hitachi and 2 AMK and I can say that in the 3 cases from inside nothing is perceived, but from outside YES, and especially the AMK that are noisier than the Hitachi originall and especially the latter, which I have put new only a month ago, is clearly the loudest and is the one that vibrates and also at the same time seems to be the most powerful and solvent in its operation, as well which I imagine that will be the explanation, but it is true that from outside the car is the most noticeable, from within none of the 3.
Greetings and good luck lost in translation!
