[Wanted] Duff Hitachi Compressor

I have a faulty compressor temperature sensor, so looking to replace just the sensor and not the whole compressor.

If anyone has a faulty compressor I would like to buy it (or just the sensor to save on postage).

Alternatively if anyone knows the type of sensor and where I can get a new replacement that would be even better, but mine has no markings on it whatsoever.

Thanks

Forbes

Hi Daniel, yes that's the critter that's caused me all my suspension headaches.

Would you be willing to post the sensor to me for some money? I could transfer a payment to you.

Just cut the cables leaving a few inches of wire and I can solder it on to replace mine.

Thumbs Up

Could you let us all know what the fault was that was caused by your faulty sensor with your suspension problem please. Thanks, Dave. Thumbs Up

Hi Dave,

this was related to a previous post I put on...
Quote:

Having had various suspension issues last year I replaced the compressor with standard Hitachi and fitted a new air reservoir because the old one was leaking. So with great satisfaction all warnings disappeared and I had trouble free motoring and suspension for 6 months.

Then all of a sudden amber suspension warning came up a few weeks ago. Suspension seems to be OK, although it takes ages to lift to off road height and comes up with a message saying "suspension raising slowly" or something similar. So I took the plunge and bought a new IID BT from Ebay at a very reasonable £375. Smile

So I read the fault and it says this:

IIDTool BT V3.0 B2444 Suspension • C1A26-16 (AF) Temperature sensor circuit - General electrical failure - circuit voltage below threshold

The IID tool also reported that the compressor motor was running at 199C which it clearly wasnt because it would say that even when just started or on ignition.

The overall effect I found out recently was that the compressor although functioning would not charge up the system to full pressure - I assume this is programmed in for safety and made the overall handling of the vehicle feel 'wooly' especially around bends and not very nice to drive. So eventually I cut the sensor off and the reported motor temperature went back to a default 10C and now the suspension is working perfectly and charging up to full pressure with no permanent suspension warning light and improving handling of the vehicle immediately. Although, after a while if the motor runs for more than a couple of minutes it does show a warning light with a code that says its expecting the motor temperature to rise and it isnt, so the program is figuring out the sensor isnt there or not working.

So for the sake of a £20 sensor it renders a £350 suspension pump useless and you cant buy replacement sensors anywhere (no identifying marks whatsoever) only a replacement pump.

I'm getting a second hand sensor from another forum member, so hopefully when I solder it in it will report the correct temp to the system. Otherwise I'll either live with the occasional warning light or replace the Hitachi pump with a AMK one.

Hi Forbes, thanks for the comprehensive reply and very useful info. I'll take a look at my sensor as I've had a suspension problem for ever but I haven't got a code reader so I go from one idea to the next blindly, Thanks again, Dave. Thumbs Up

Yep, good luck fixing it. If you are experiencing similar problems and are OK with a soldering iron, it might be worth trying my solution and cutting through those wires. If that doesn't solve the problem, you can always solder them back together again with a little shrink wrap, shouldn't hurt. I can hear a thousand forum members shouting "dont tell him to do that!", but unless you can get a diagnostic onto it you'll have to resort to drastic measures like that to try and discover the problem. Shocked

It makes you wonder if keeping the air suspension is worth it and why not just change to fixed springs and shocks! Rolling Eyes
