German motorways
Dragging the Rib from Zeebrugge to Zadar Croatia via Munich soon I've noticed in past trips the German motorways have signs saying HGVs & trailers no overtaking
I understand why but I don't want to be stuck behind a slow truck or caravan doing 80 kph when I can do 100 kph
So my question is do they enforce it much.
so go to Italy instead. 145kmh+ , no nasty letters in the post yet..

Be prepared for lots of roadworks
Consider driving on a Sunday when all the HGVs are parked up in the service areas.

On the spot fines if you are caught overtaking when you shouldn't especially through roadworks and if you are going down the A3 in Germany towards Passau there are plenty. Speeding, tailgating and using phone while driving are all on the spot fines. Either pay on the spot or they will take you the nearest cash machine. Plenty of plain clothes cars on the roads as well.
A colleague of mine got a €120 fine for a u-turn at a junction. It's definitely easier going on a Sunday. But as mentioned the speed limit and no overtaking is needed as it's very hard for the Porsche/BMW/Audi drivers to recognise a car pulling out when they're going over twice your speed.
I've seen some of the accidents when that's happened and they use small shovels.

Sunday driving ban for trucks is midnight Sunday till 10pm. Also there's a Saturday summer driving ban from 7am to 10pm for trucks from 1st of July to 31st August. Been a hgv diver on the continent for nearly 20 years and when they have an accident they do it properly. Not only a small shovel but a bucket.
