Bump.
Or, recommend me a new one that will do the job (ie general 12V and 240v fault finding and testing duties) for about £40 ____

Bang for Buck.....The Brymen BM235 is a good one I think, but over double your budget (£86.50 or more on amazon). From a safety aspect (particularly when using it for 240vAC mains) it pays not to go too cheap.....some Flukes etc are over £400... D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. RRS front lower suspension arms. New suspension compressor/ relay. New Denso alternator. CuNifer rear brake pipes. New GKN rear propshaft. New HPFP belt & tensioner. New A/C Condenser.NO WARRANTY for many many years.

For 240v use I would certainly recommend a decent set of fused leads, mainly from the safety aspect
£40 will buy some reasonable quality meters have a look at http://www.test4less.co.uk/electrical/mult...rder=price or http://isswww.co.uk/multimeter-products/mu...rder=price I buy from these companies but in a slightly different price bracket but there are plenty of well known names in your price bracket that will be more than adequate for occasional use "Never keep up with the Joneses. Drag'em down to your level. It's cheaper".

I've got a Fluke 77, new in 1985. Fab thing. Another one the same would do the job but not at my budget, just missed out on a 75 on eBay tonight. ____

Well, I received this Martindale today, it seems pretty good and ideal for my needs, a well-made quality item for about £35. ____
