Whilst the LIN protocol is an internationally recognised standard, the content of the frames and the IDs of the frames are unique to each manufacturer. There are only a few modules on the vehicle that the IDs are published, mainly engine and transmission. This is to allow the use of generic scan tools especial in the USA.
The connectors and voltages may well be the same, but it's like having a family member who doesn't speak your language.1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8

I understand this. But has anyone actually adapted the connector on the vw braded telestart box to prove it, or are we speculating it won't work?
The heaters are manufactured by webasto. Are they likely to change their wbus commands for each manufacturer?
You are likely to be correct, but if the vw ones could be adapted it would open up a whole new avenue for D4 owners wanting to ad remote heating.
We spend lots of money with suppliers to devlop software and communication protocols. The signals need to work with the heater controls which will be supplier unique. I've worked on the interface modules for JLR, Aston Martin and others before now and we've had to add in extra ecus just to translate signals.1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8

The telestart boxes only spit out wbus which directly communicates with the webasto heater. The heater must send the hvac start signal on its can bus when it receives a start command via wbus.

VW one doesn't work on LR standard WBUS for sure.
Due to VW uses a customized version of the thermotop WBUS protocol.
You need the not VW T90 WBUS version or the T91, T91R.
By the way I have one ready to sell (removed from my D4, when I installed the Altox) with remote and aerial

I did this test but it does not work. The FFBH start at the command but shuts down after a few seconds.
VW thermotop FFBH has also different connector layout on the heater motherboardDiscovery 5 tdv6 HSE Corris Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition

Pretty sure they won't work.
I've got plenty of stock of the LR ones.
Have you still got any LR ones and how much are they?
