Guys
There seems to be a fair few new 'vans coming out at 8ft wide, as these are now legal in the UK.
We really like our Bailey Olympus 620 layout, but Bailey dont do it anymore in any of their ranges, and the closest is a Elddis Avante 640 (or Compass derivative), but both at 8ft wide.
Are any of you towing 'vans at this width - and have you had site/pitch access issues or just general view of towing at this width on tight country lanes . I ask as quite a few sites we've been on in France have had pretty tight access, even if the pitch has been a good size (140sq Mtrs plus)
Thanks

Hi Al
I have towed an 8 foot hobby for a friend once, and found no problems.
But did drive low loaders for years.
To be honest i dont think it will make much of a change, most sites have lorrys going to them and they are 8 foot wide as well.
I did see an new 8 foot in Ilkeston the other day behind a D4 and all seemd ok.
Just remember its 8 foot behind you and your be ok.

We've had 8ft van for over a year now, no issues with access on any of the sites we use, just take things steady. Well worth it for the additional interior space.

We had an 8ft wide Hobby for a couple of years
Needed the extra long arms for the Milenco mirrors for my Defender!
No access problems and on the majority of roads it's ok, the worse being some of the narrow roads down in Cornwall especially the ones with stone walls either side.
It would be very easy to drive too close to them and hit the side of the van when meeting oncoming traffic.
Just a case of remembering how wide you are! D4 MY15 (64) SE Tech, Loire Blue

We stopped for the weekend on the club site. Bit disappointed with the lack of accessories at the show this time.

We went on Saturday too, found a lovely 8' wide in the layout for us, no pressure from the sales people, lovely friendly guy quoted us a show special price plus a free upgrade on the motor mover, over and above the manufacturers allowance, 4% finance.
In contrast another dealer closer to our home location, was £2K dearer, not so good motor mover, and wanted a £1k deposit plus 6.5% finance, again not overly pushy sales pitch,
In contrast a super Lay out in the twin axle wineburger answered all the questions then told us it was not allowed on UK roads at 7.5M long 😡😡😡😡😡😡 why didn't they mention that to begin with? They did in very small print on a little sign by the door, not on the brochure along with the U.K. spec blurb.

Going to have a Google and find the brochure, I thought it was only 7M but thinking back the A frame was a tad longer than 500mm, so the body could well be 7.5M which will put it in commercial towing only

My Bailey is 7.908m overall.
So you might get away with it.

Oohhh that's encouraging, I did think it would be close to tell at a glance, only being stopped by VOSA or pedantic plod would give the game away
Official length is 746cm internal

Wineburger sounds the perfect caravan for us!...she likes wine and I like burgers...
Didn't see them at the show but just looked at the brochure on-line and they look really good.
Anybody see the Hobby with the bay windows front and back ?

Just looked at the Hobby on Ambergate Caravans site.
They just up the road, so might pop in and have a look, when on way to Matlock.
Must say i dont like it that much.
But my mate will love it behind his RRS.
Regards

I don't like the outside look either but the inside was solid.
The overhang over the bay windows looks a real weak point , can you imagine the stresses on that while towing.
