Blimey! This is worrying! Are cars covered if they're still under the original manufacturers 3 year warranty? I'd been considering changing my 2015 car for an end of run Landmark or a D5 but if this is the treatment to be expected if an engine goes bang I think it's time to start looking elsewhere.

Update
Ok, been offline for a bit (apologies), but nothing to report until today;
Early last week, after Car Car Plan refused cover the new engine, I pursued the dealer for several days which was a pita as I've been away with work and was eventually told that JLR would offer a 60% contribution to a replacement engine Naturally, I voiced my complete disbelief that they would not cover 100% with it being JLR Used Approved. I was then told that the dealer was going to approach Car Care Plan for the remaining 40%. I thought this was ridiculous as they wouldnt reject only part of a repair for a known fault
Anyway, we got a call from JLR on Friday asking for our Driving License details as they were now picking up the bill for the hire car we currently have, which prompted the question why? Apprently there was an engine on order, according to their files- more confusion
Promptly called the dealer this morning to be told that JLR have now revised their original offer to 100% of the repair
God only knows what went on in the background but I can only imagine somebody returned from holiday with the communal JLR brain cell and made the only decision they could, given they were over a barrell with this one.
Anyway the engine is en route and we are getting a replacement D5 meantime as the hire one is costing JLR circa £300 per day, until ours is fixed ( 2 weeks apparently). Although, the new turbo is currently on back order but I'm supposedly a Priority 1
A good news story in the end (well so far), but not a nice experience and one that I feel JLR could have handled a lot better, given this known issue and a no-brainer warranty claim. I do feel for others who have not had such a positive end result.
I'll post again when we get it back and let you know the verdict but thanks for all the support and info you've all provided so far

Good result, if at second attempt. It makes you wonder what the thought processes are in LRCS, and whether they are trying to alienate customers.

A top result in the end!
I wonder why LR don't throw the problem back at Ford/psa and make them pick up the tab.Stu

Really puts me off buying another LR, I thought the problem with shell bearings spinning had been eliminated on 2013 models, seems I'm wrong It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Doesn't put the LR used warranty in a very good light if they don't cover the engine.

I have asked for confirmation that the replacement engine has a revised design that resolves the issue, but I'm not confident that anyone in the dealership has any idea what I've asked for given the age/MY of the failures noted earlier in the post, I'm not confident that the issue has actually ever been addressed on the D4s?

OP, very pleased to hear that JLR has seen sense on this and offered a reasonable solution. That said, it appears that you are in the minority here and that the LR Approved warranty is leaving a number of owners out in the cold when they thought they were covered. It would be very interesting to take legal advice on this, since I struggle to believe that this would not be seen in a (very) poor light.

Disco's Fixed!
Oh well, here goes the D4 is apparently repaired and ready to go. Let's see how Taggarts get on confirming they've installed a modified engine that won't simply fail in the same manner as the previous one! If not, are they simply providing me with an engine with a known fault? Can't help think that if not a modified/upgraded engine wrt Bearing Shell rotation, they're simply providing faulty goods?
I'll post later with the outcome.

Mine was in last week to Taggarts in Maryhill road. What a difference to the muppet show in Stirling. Service was 1st class. Waiting on a new sunroof (Opening bit) as a lot of wind noise. No you cant just get a new seal its a whole new unit.
