D4 Engine Oil type?
Oil experts...
2013 D4 with a dpf. The book tells me I need a ford approved C1 oil.
I plan on changing the oil every 5k from now on. Is it critical I stick to this spec?
Also would it matter if I drained it and filled it with £6 Tesco cheap crap for a day to act as a flushing oil?
Cheers.

C1 is the right oil!
and, why flushing the engine? you do not need it!Discovery 5 tdv6 HSE Corris Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition
Some do use the C3 oil in cars that are required to use C1 and have no issue, especially if changing frequently.
Personally I change mine every 5k and use C1 every time , for a few extra quid I prefer to use the specified oil
Will be the same in the gearbox oil change soon, there are other oils that can be used but I'm yet to see confirmation that the spec is the same as Lifeguard 8, so that's what mine will be having as it approaches 50kAltox GSM FBH controller thread

C3 has an HTHS higher than C1 which means greater viscous friction (see below pics, Fuel economy is the viscous friction indicator)....
... attention to the rotation of the bearings.....
If you aren't able to look for the C1, you can use the C2

Yes interesting graphs. Thank you.
It seems to highlight that the C1 oil has sacrificed some of its lubricating properties in order to save fuel.
With the number of main bearing failures on the 3.0 V6 I'm wondering if I could use a more "oily" oil and change more frequently to help the main bearing a little?
This graph shows a PSA B71 2312 oil protects against wear far better than C1, with only a slight hit on fuel economy. It also seems to be a C2 oil.
Does this make any sense or am I barking up the wrong tree?
