Hi
Strange fault has developed in my 08.5 D3 sat nav system.
If I start the car in the morning the sat nav works fine. If I stop the car after a few minutes and then start again, the sat nav freezes on the "I agree" button. The unit under the seat seems dead (no power) and won't eject the disc (even after unlocking the door!). If I leave it for a couple of hours, its still the same. Leaving overnight / 4/5 hours or so means it works again.
I have removed and re-set the three connectors on the rear of the sat nav unit under the passenger seat and it makes no difference.
At all times the screen works fine on the other modes such as DVD / TV / 4x4 etc.
Is it just a duff head unit that needs some TLC (yes I know the system is crap compared to Google but its in the car and I don't like things not owrking in the car)?
Any thoughts greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Thanks - I searched through the forums before posting and I didn’t spot anything similar. I have done all the standard stuff - cleaned disc, checked plugs, etc.
I suspect it’s a new ECU / box under the passenger seat but wanted to check for anyone else’s experiences first. D3 - 2008.5MY HSE, Stornaway Grey, RSE etc - all the toys

it could be you can get a second hand unit from ebay or you can buy the dvd drive's on ali express and fit it yourself which is fiddly but then you know you have at least a new dvd drive Discovery 3 se gone

Update if this sheds any light on the matter:
The unit still starts after an overnight or such other long rest, and works fine until a short stop / ignition off event. The screen then freezes on the "don't use whilst moving screen" and the "agreed" touch button doesn't work. The rest of the system / screen functions - TV, DVD, etc - all work fine.
After an hour of not working, the screen comes up with quick message about initialising the sat nav or similar, resets itself and then works fine again - I can press the "agreed" button and program the sat nav as normal (or indeed continue on the previous route when it has found me!).
So is this likely to be hardware or perhaps software related? Would sticking the older version of the sat nav route disc into the player help?
Any thoughts would be much appreciated D3 - 2008.5MY HSE, Stornaway Grey, RSE etc - all the toys

Has anyone done this kind of replacement conversion?

OK - so three years down the line - let's bring this one back to the top.
I am now the proud owner of the above 2008.5MY D3, and the problem remains as it was described in post 1 of this topic.
I'll get a phone mount sorted so I can use Google Maps or similar, but I dislike things that don't work - so any more ideas on what to investigate first please?

Sounds like the unit under the seat at fault.
May as well fit a D4 system if you want to repair.

Thanks Pete K - do you know, is the D4 unit a direct swap (And is it ANY D4 unit?), or is there anything to look out for/swap?
I've seen mention of the ECU being at fault - is that within the unit, or elsewhere?

Have a (search) and read this topic...
https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/d4-sat-nav-...=D4+screen
Will take a while, but everything is in there...
Did it myself, and is the best advice in case of your issue. imho...
To be short.. only early D4 screens will work.till. 2010/2011
The Rest is also in that topic.. Best regards
Harold
