See above its not designed to use residual heat the HEAT button should fire the FBH for up to 30 minutes if IGNITION OFF/RADIO ON
As will an FBH remote fob of course

Not much use in having incorrect information available to confuse future readers when they search to find out how to use the Park HEAT/VENT functions....
And I lined through incorrect info and added info I did not delete/alter any post
Title altered to make searching for Park Heating/Venting easier

PARK HEATING THREAD CONCLUSION
"PARK HEATING" THREAD CONCLUSION: (WIKI ?)
1. The Discovery 4 does not use residual engine heat to warm cabin while stationary
2. The Discovery 4 does use the FBH for up to 30 minutes using MANUAL HEAT button while parked with IGNITION OFF & RADIO ON
3. The Discovery 4 does off MANUAL VENT button (Outside air hot or cold) while parked with IGNITION OFF & RADIO ON.
4. The MANUAL HEAT can be operated via the optional REMOTE FBH Fob
5. The MANUAL HEAT/VENT buttons will be greyed out and unusable if ignition on and/or radio off.

It only 'vents' above a certain temp ...not when it is cold

Sorry think conclusions not quiet there yet.
Have feeling that diff MY work different.
My previous my12 had timed climate as standard fit no fob.
I used the manual vent regularly in winter while waiting around in cold.
It definatley did not fire the fbh,. It would blow warm air in for about 10 mins. It could be used a couple of times depended on length of time it had stood still. Usually end of second attempt the air would be blowing much cooler..
The pre 14 models keep the systems alive much longer you could watch TV / Radio for a good 30mins before shutdown and the manual vent sys.
Having remote fitted on present MY16 have never used screen options but the sys all shutdown in less than 10 min anyway.
Going out later so will see how this one worksD4 Landmark MY16 Santorini Black THE LAST

Are you talking about 'air recirculation' ..which is timed ...but not controlled via the timer or the fob?

As there are two options greyed out unless "ignition off radio on" we need to be clear whether discussing:
1. MANUAL HEAT, or
2. MANUAL VENT

Manual Vent would not fire FBH...(Manual HEAT should)
Its also worth noting the following...
Once parked heating is on, if it is not selected off it will automatically time-out after 30 minutes. If the engine is started while parked heating is on:
If the engine coolant temperature is equal to or more than the heater coolant temperature, parked heating is switched off
If the engine coolant temperature is less than the heater coolant temperature, parked heating remains on until the engine coolant temperature reaches the heater coolant temperature.

Of course timed climate was an option and you only get the manual heat/manual vent buttons if you also have timed climate installed/enabled.
Oh and just to confuse matters, if the coolant is already at full temp, manual heat does not fire the FBH for more than a minute or so before it shuts down and the air coming out of the vents just goes cold. It is quite a poorly thought out system, the manual heat button is of little practical use unless you want to warm up a very cold car from scratch, don't have remote climate and forgot to set the timer.
All 3 of my D4s have behaved in this way. Manual heat function is pretty much pointless. To be clear the FBH does not run for 30 minutes if the coolant is already hot when using the manual heat button in my experience.

Yes to above
I just added the following above from the Range Rover WIKI: (before I saw your post)
So as pointed out by DISCOTECA the car has to be cold to use the Manual Heat button
But it does PROVE that Park Heat uses the FBH not Residual Engine Heat.

^ well kind off. The coolant has to be very cold to fire the FBH with the manual heat button. If at full operating temp I can leave mine standing for an hour after turning off when it is -5 outside and manual heat still doesn't fire the FBH.
Manual heat does run the fans though (but not the coolant pump if the FBH hasn't fired) so you do get a little bit of residual heat from the hot coolant left in the heater matrix blown through for a few minutes, then the air goes cold and the fans turn off shortly after.
Utterly pointless. A bit more thought would have made it much better - if it continued to circulate the already hot coolant for example, it would have worked exactly like the residual heat function being discussed originally, with the added benefit that if the coolant was cold it would fire the FBH.

No chance. They can't even get the heating to work properly in the last D4s when the engine is running
Unfortunately I've resigned myself to the fact that the D4 is already long gone and forgotten in LR's eyes. I doubt we will see fixes for anything now unless a critical safety issue is identified. The frequency of the words "operating as per design intent" are a dead giveaway.

A fix for what ? ...the purpose of timed climate is to get the motor warmed up on a cold frosty morning or cooled down on a hot day ...it's not meant to be an ongoing provision of heat or cooling.
