Do I have a heater?

I know that sounds like a stupid question, but how please do I find out if I actually have one?

I have a facelift 2014 Disco 4 XS.

I don’t have any options in the menu for settling the timer, nor do I have a separate remote-control for it (although this just may not have been handed over by the previous owner?!), but the manual says it has a heater (although this may be for say an HSE, whereas I have an XS).

I’m presuming the heater, or part of it, is the funny looking gas-can in front of the battery?

Do I perhaps have a heater, but it just operates automatically? – or do I not actually have a heater at all??

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks, Mark

Thanks mate, much appreciated.

So good news then that I definitely have one, but it just comes on automatically at minus 6.

I definitely don’t have any mention it (or any timer for it) it in the menu (I’ve tripped-looked!), would be good to be able to use it manually though – is this just a software update needed, or hardware?

For a D4 the heater starts automatically if the outside temperature is less than 9 deg C and the coolant temperature is less than 75 deg C.

Timer operation is a software update. Remote operation from a remote fob is hardware (receiver and aerial) install and software update.

LR workshop manual definitely only refers to 9 deg not 6 for a D4.

6 deg I think is the on threshold for a D3.

Thanks all.

So it comes on at less than 6c (or possibly 9c), regardless it should be coming on in the cold circa 0c-3c weather we’ve been having the last couple of weeks. I don’t think I’ve noticed it though.

I have to do the nursery run each morning and it would be great to have the timer come on to warm the engine and car beforehand rather than waiting for the windows to clear, as I always seem to be in a rush in the mornings with the kids!.

I’ve done a bit of Googling and the remotes are circa £100 from LR, but it appears from the post above though that I will also needs a receiver & aerial (sounds expensive!). Just having the option in the menu would be great though so I will see if LR can do a software update when the car is with them early January.

Space Cadet, several forum sponsors will be able to give you either timed or remote operation for far less than a dealer would be able to.

Thanks all.

First things first - I don’t even know if it’s working as I don’t think I’ve seen any smoke coming from the front left….

Usually I go and get the engine running and the windscreen on defrost while I get the kids shoes & coats on and then do the 100 trips to the car with them and all the bags, I would’ve thought therefore I’d notice some smoke from the front.

I just assumed therefore a) I didn’t have the heater, or b) if I did, because I don’t have the option in the menu, I wasn’t able to use it for whatever reason.

I’m not really up for a big DIY project at the moment; if it was plug n play then I’d give an aftermarket timer/remote a go. I’d be ‘happy’ to spend the £100 at LR for a remote but it looks like I would also need the receiver and aerial fitted = £00’s!!.
