Just wondered if someone can help
Done the timming belt on my car a while ago but it has a tapping noise which is worse when cold for a couple of miles but today I had the cover off the engine when warm and does sound tappy even when warm although not as bad I put a screw driver to each injector and put my ear to it and they all going tap tap tap quiet loud though the screw driver
My question is Is that how it should sound being a diesel or could the valve timming be a fraction out I only used a mark on bottom crank and the two pins on cams and although the crank never
Moved could it still be a tad out as there and intermediate cam shaft that doesn’t have to be a tooth out although it seems to drive ok as I done the belt as soon as I got it I don’t know really if it was like it before
Any advise would be great

Early cars had "blankets" over the injectors to keep up quiet.
A small piece of black foam each side of the engine.
I doubt its the timing.

There nothing round the injectors and when I was listening around the rear left injector that’s the loudest sounds really load up close but as I never heard another engine running I don’t really know how quiet/loud the engine should be
Wasn’t sure on the timming as there is plenty of power and I’m sure with a diesel being the slightest out surely it wouldn’t run right as it needs compression to ignite the fuel and if it was out a tad then it wouldn’t have the compression it needs
I wonder if anyone on here could post a video of there’s so I can compare it
