Replacing High Level Stop Light |
|
Damaged mine and 'the large one' sent me a new one. (thanks Nick)
Has anyone actually had one replaced without needing to re-spray the tailgate.
The dealer used a windscreen fitter to fit one and it needed re-spraying.
The fitter will not touch another.
Spoke to another fitter who had done one and he also passed on the offer.
What is the technique for doing this?
Looks like I will need to tell the dealer how to do it.
GTR just says:
"Installation:
:
:
2 . Carefully remove the sealant from the body to leave a smooth surface.
:
:
5 . Apply etch primer to any bare metal.
6 . Apply primer over the etch primer.
7 . Apply activator to the high mounted stoplamp.
8 . Fit a pre-cut nozzle to the sealer cartridge, remove the lid, shake out the crystals and fit the cartridge to the applicator gun.
9 . Apply an 8.0 mm ( 0.30 in ) wide continuous bead of sealant, 15.0 mm ( 0.60 in ) in, from the outer edge of the high mounted stoplamp as shown.
10 . Install the high mounted stoplamp." “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

You have to hack it out apparently it's best to drill a few holes in the broken one first (avoiding the washer pipe!)and then break it out bit by bit which will just leave the bits bonded to the metalwork, cut through the bonding with a very sharp knife from the inside edge
Not sure if the GPS receiver is part of the stoplight assembly so be careful!

Thanks TFC
It looked like that was what was needed. Maybe cutting out the centre of the plastic with a grinder then work from the inside.
No GPS antenna, but I am going to put one in now I have the opportunity. I am wanting to run laptop off a touch screen. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€
