Jet 2 from Manchester Airport

Just to let you know from the 11/4/18 Jet 2 customers flying to Lanzarote, Tenerife,Malaga and Palma will go and return into T2 at Manchester. All other Jet 2 flights will go as normal from T1 Lower .If you fly out before the 11th you will go to T1 as normal but if arriving back after the 11th you will come back into T2 so may be worth changing your airport parking over to T2 Thumbs Up
This is a public service broadcast.

I just find the whole thing a disjointed sprawl. I know its because its grown over the years, and expansion is not easy to do in a working airport.

T2 is ok, but T1 is ancient, and T3 domestic is a joke!

Flew Manchester to Geneva last year from T1. Thought I'd been transferred to a Soviet gulag to go through security down in the bowels of the terminal. Crowded, noisy, claustrophobic, excruciatingly slow and full of unnecessarily shouty security people.

What a contrast to staff at Geneva for the return. Friendly, helpful, pleasant and a smile!

Decided I would never use Manchester T1 again if there was a choice.

Last week... Sad First time through Manchester in donkeys and specifically requested hire car with navigation. What the hire company failed to tell me was that the navigation would be less than useless in finding the car hire drop off on the return trip because the place is an absolute s**t hole / building site.
Imagine the situation, 07:30 Thursday morning M56, smashing navi system this, it tells me I'm in a traffic jam after I've been sat in it for 15mins. Half an hour later in nose to tail traffic, now I'm thinking leaving 45 mins earlier than planned for my flight was clever, but was it clever enough? Anyway I finally get off the motorway and I think I can still make it with time to spare.
Navi "Turn left at the next junction" me… "What junction?" Follow the diversion sign I think. What diversion sign? Okay I’ll follow the convenient temporary signs for the car hire drop off….. What sign’s? Navi "Recalculating route" ... "Turn left at the next junction" me "it's a roundabout and the first turn off is closed"
Now you have to realise I'm in an unfamiliar car with a navi system I can hardly see because I left my reading glasses in the bag, which is safely tucked away on the back seat out of reach. I'm sat in the driving seat on the right hand side of the car, which I haven't done in more than ten years, it's raining, and the very new Toyota CH-R they upgraded me to has the streakiest screen I've ever seen and the clock is still ticking. To top all of this the windows now start steaming up. Must be because my blood is starting to boil. Open the window…deep breaths… that’s better, at least the builders and road construction crew can now hear me screaming my profanities at them. Can’t pull over as there’s no room to stop anywhere and the traffics starting to pick up with lots of people who know where they’re going.
Okay seem to remember the car hire village is close to terminal 3, so let’s follow the signs for that. Aha there we go Terminal 3…… but this road is one way. How the f**k am I going to find my way out of this? Navi…….. "Turn left at the next junction" me….. “is that the only f***ing phrase you know?” Hold on… this is back to where I started from. Me… Hey there builder chappy do you know where the f***ing car hire village is? Builder chappy.. ”Yes it’s down there and… turn left at the next junction” me…”are you sure? There’s a barrier there” Builder chappy… “That’s okay we’re just moving it” Me…… “F***, f***, f***!!!” Builder chappy…..”What was that?” Me… “Sorry err thanks very much”
Got to the car hire drop off 30 mins before the flight. Only carrying hand baggage I managed to get through security in time and made the flight phewww……….. Missed out on the full English I had planned though. Next time I go through Manchester it’s got to be Limo or Taxi.
Oh and yes, I now know that once you leave the motorway and you follow Ringway Road West and turn right onto Ringway Road the car hire village is right there. Should have Googled it before I left. Isn’t hindsight a wonderful thing?

Given I live 10 mins away and don't mind getting up in the middle of the night, I've done countless drop-offs/pick-ups over the years. Even used to pickup a lad flying in from Belfast to go down to meetings in Telford ... so you'd think I'd know my way round ?

last time I did a pickup, I tried to use my usual "free waiting" spot ... 1st choice not accessible, nor 2nd. So went for no. 3. great so far. phone goes so set off to pickup ( at arrivals as it's free of course!! )and .... Censored me, I can only get onto M56 and have to head into Manchester for a couple of miles before spinning round at the junction to come back to the airport and follow the new diversions.

Use Manchester a lot - been to a lot worse airports in the 'developed' world.
T2 is the worst IMO
Only tip I can give, unless included in your ticket price, buy a Fast Track ticket - gets you out of the hell of the security queue a hell of a lot quicker.

It was a hell of a lot better pre 9/11 and everything that happened after it - remember when you could walk, within the airport, from T3 right the way to T2? - also saw a picture of it on facebook in the early '70's with all the plane spotters on the roof of the terraces of T1
