Coincidently I spent Sunday night there with Mrs Timmyt...we have stayed quite a few times..average around 1/2 times a year. This year was probably the worst...things have definitely declined. We stayed in the manor house which is a lot cheaper but still has direct access into main hotel via a series of escalators.Could def do with a lick of paint but nice enough for price.Spa/pool area is really falling short now though...lot of the jets etc don't work...General feeling that it's understaffed, especially at busy times...piles of dirty towels left uncollected etc.Dirty changing rooms,70% of lockers unusable (although there was a notice to say they are being replaced) Generally as has been said...for £40 a night hotel it would be ok but not when your paying £175 !! Breakfast was good..evening entertainment is always good and relaxing...although bar staff don't seem interested...Will leave you standing at bar for ages.. or you have choice to sit and wait for 30minutes for table service and then pay for the pleasure each time!😠 Oh and to top it off they now charge you £5 a night parking!!! There are lots of other very nice hotels not too far away that may be worth looking at.

A shame tbh, it used to have a good reputation and accolades when it was the 17 bedroom manor "best hotel in Wales" in the early 80's. Detail was everything.
It was one man's vanity project but as it's grown to gigantic proportions they have lost the standards and attention to detail that so often happens when you sit on the laurels of your perceived status. Sometimes this is due to cost cutting and budget ...but investment has never been in short supply there, its just management dropping the ball.
Like so many hotels nowadays, they don't train the staff properly, they don't manage properly, they forget what they are there for and this results in service which neither matches the expectation nor £value of customer's, who to add insult to injury, are often resented as a just a PITA.
