New trailer - new hitch question!
Another trailer question!
The Sankey conversion is going, being replaced by a new trailer made by Multi-Trail trailers of South Africa. The big benefit being lower centre of gravity but most importantly a proper trailer tent, as opposed to the roof tent that is on the Sankey. Loving it so far.
Question is this though, greenlaning with Sankey in tow wasn't an issue because of the NATO Pintle/Sankey ring hitch combination. As a pair, in terms of articulation they are probably on a par with the US lock and roll systems. I alsways knew that no matter what acute angle the trailer was in compared to the tow vehcile all would be fine and nothing would jam or break.
New trailer has 50mm towball. I suspect ring and pin would offer more flexibility but I'm fairly certain they are only legal in UK on commercial vehicles. I absolutely certain the lock and roll systems are not uk legal/type approved so what are my options in terms of hitch setup?
If you have a trailer and you do a fair bit of laning with it and it has a 50mm towball setup how well do you find that it articulates? Do I even need to be concerened about this? or jsut carry spare hitch and ball just in case!!
Thanks all.Cogito ergo sum!

How much articulation is in the new hitch? I’ve two different trailers with different types of Bradley hitches on them. They both swivel over 180 degrees, ie you could turn the trailer upside down and it wouldn’t affect the hitch.

The new trailer is just a standard 50mm towball and coupling.Cogito ergo sum!

Mines a 50mm ball hitch also here is what I mean about being able to turn it upside down.
But I guess you also need breakout angles also if going up sudden steep slopes or going over very sharp crests you don’t want to get it stuck.
I guess you will have to check that with your own trailer once you get it as every trailer will be different

Ah I see what you mean now. Yeah my trailer is not braked and therefore hitch does not rotate. It is fixed to the drawbar.Cogito ergo sum!

That was much easier than expected
Not sure it's any good, as no idea if it rotates (No movement at all in either direction due it being stood doing nothing for many years)

Cheers Iggy, I've already got one of those. Purchase on a whim off ebay a while back when I was going to put on my Sankey. Never got round to it and is now in shed rusting away
Other than NATO hitch there must be other options in UK other than towball???? Isn't there anyone else here that takes their trailer with them if their out for an extended period covering lanes. What do you use??Cogito ergo sum!

I took my off-road trailer down a 1m drop off the other day with some slide slope as well and the 50mm ball was fine.
