Sold old Howling moon roof tent hello new Hannibal !
Last week i sold my howling moon roof tent and this week I have bought a second hand Hannibal one with the enclosed ladder and lower annex/awning :thumbsup:Thanks to Paul the fixer Bannister
The only drawback is that it is in Exeter, so next Tuesday my wife and myself are travelling down to pick it up. As a sweetener for my wife we are going to stop overnight in Torquay and go out for a meal before collecting the tent on Wednesday morning on the way back up. I have had to put money to it but as you well know its an investment This is a pic of the type I have bought not the actual one

Good choice. I have the same setup, and the wife and I throughly enjoy it.

We travel around Europe in the summer for about a month. It will be a good replacement for our old HM with a little more privacy at the back.

Not very water tight Mark that’s why I got rid of mine & got a Howling Moon.
If I were you I would get a ‘European’ spec fly sheet for the tent as I had nothing but trouble with mine with the original one that was brand new from Nene.
The European spec one has a brown tarpaulin top that helps to get rid of the water faster off the roof to help prevent pooling.
Every time it rained it would pool on the top of the fly shee & then start coming through.
Also the tent cover is not fully removable like the HM one so when it ’s down the water ends up sat in the cover so when packing away your tent gets wet .
I must say that I do think the material used on the Hannibal is better/ heavier quality than the HM.
Here’s a photo of the different flysheet. You may even be able to get someone local to see a piece onto the top of your existing flysheet.
Enjoy the new purchase

Do you know where to get that cover from. I agree that it’s not particularly water proof and dams easily when it rains. We always put a pole up the middle to stop the water daming.

Love the idea of one of these. Do you notice much difference in MPG snd or handling with the tent packed on the roof?

John
After several phone calls & emails to Nene showing it leaking they eventually got me the other fly sheet.
If you have a look on the South African Hannibal website you will see that they also do a new pole section which causes the roof to have a slight pitch on it to help with dispersal of the rain water.
Since I’ve gone to a HM don’t seem to have any problems yet with leaking water into the annex.

Don’t really notice it to be honest.
I presume that it may make a bit of difference to mpg but I’m driving basically a square box any way with not much in the line of aerodynamics
My HM roof tent is a lot light than my old Hannibal. This is mainly due to the HM having a sandwich type base & the Hannibal has a marine plywood base making it rather heavy.
Great been up on top in the tent, really comfy mattress & just leave your gear in when folding it away so don’t need to fill the truck with sleeping gear.
