Or admit they have a problem and are not going to do anything apart from the bare minimum.

I wonder if you just don’t hear about it as much here as many of the D4s on the road are V8s, like mine. They don’t have the issue.
Jason, have you thought about a replacement engine from a wrecker? The goodwill payment may not apply if not getting it fixed at LR, but you could get up and running a lot cheaper.
There are some good specialist wreckers around - Stag 4x4 in Auckland, and a couple in Christchurch. Even one here in Dunedin, not that I have seen much D4 stuff there.
If it’s going to cost more than a new Disco, they must want serious dosh! I got my 2011 D4 V8 with only 45,000kms for $51k - and that was from a LR dealer. How much they trying to charge for an engine?
Good luck!King of the typo.
MY11 D4 5.0 V8, Bournville, lots of goodies!
Now departed: '85 RR Vogue, '94 D1, '95 D1, '70 SIIA, '97 D1, '04 D2a. All V8, except for the SIIA - but that drank as much petrol anyway!

That would mean they admit they have a problem.
They have admitted there is a problem because there is a TSB ...the issue is it's entirely sporadic
Thank for all you replies, but I have searched high and low for the TSB and cannot find one. There is a SSM which apparently is just a heads up warning that there may be an issue and to look out for it, but JLR cannot act on that until an official TSB has been released worldwide (so I'm told)
I've been off the road 5 weeks now and hopefully the car will be back with me next week. I've got so much else going on in my life I just needed it fixed. Luckily for me the heads and turbos were all good, so the cost to repair dropped dramatically.
Up until now, I have been a complete advocate of the brand, but now feel very nervous about the future owning this car. Lets hope it'll last another 200,00kms
Thanks again for everyone's input. much appreciated
Cheers

Sorry I keep calling it a TSB but yes its a SSM ....they won't issue a TSB because the issue is sporadic.21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
