When I purchased my '55 plate D3 'S' in May the rear parking sensor LED was flashing on the dash consistently. Initially I thought that a sensor was out of alignment however after getting this checked that is not the case.
The vehicle was a 1 owner from new before me with full service history and so I spoke to the original garage who did all the work for the previous owner. All they would tell me is that the previous owner asked for the reverse parking sensors to be disconnected (not sure why you would do this but apparently he just used the vehicle to commute between London and the Peak District, and got fed up with it).
The dash LED flashes constantly from the moment I switch the ignition on, however when I select reverse I don't get any buzzer/beeping noise. This seems to fit with the information from the dealer.
When BODSY did a mega flush for me I brought this up with him. He checked the fault code and advised it was showing an electrical issue which again fitted with the dealer information, and so suggested I check the sensor module. I have done this and found that all 3 connectors are fitted into the module correctly (rear sensor wiring, front sensor wiring - no front sensors fitted but assume the wiring is fitted as standard? - and the main power/buzzer/dash switch wiring).
I've read on the forum that the buzzer can fail. Does this sound like the ideal scenario for this? Any suggestions?
I'm not mechanically minded after having 'nearly new' cars for the last 25 years but enjoying the experience of working on the D3. Something tells me I will be an expert before too long..........

Yes I was going to suggest a replacement speaker.
Although what bossy found on the scan would be helpful.

I've PM'd Bodsy to see if he can remember the code. I'll post it if he can.

Thanks Bodsy
My vin ends 408 so the error code is:
B1B58-11 (2F) Rear sensors power circuit - General electrical failure - circuit short to ground
I don't have front sensors fitted however the wiring is there connected to the module. Is it worth me disconnecting this, would this cause the issue?

if you remove the beige plugs from the ecu.
and meausure the resistance between the black and brown wires.
The fronts should be infinity 1
The rears will likely read a low value.
You are then either looking at a failed sensor bringing the resistance down (unplug sensors one at and time and refit until you find the one that makes a significant difference. (replace it)
or a short in the wiring behind the bumper is causing a prob on black or brown wires.
Sensors can be cheaply be purchased from ebay. Worth getting one or two before to remove the bumper.
Its odd you get no noise from the speaker. Sounds faulty too
1) Check the speaker is plugged in at the rear of the car.
2) measure its resistance. Think it should be 50R
You will have no idea its fixed without a working speaker (well apart from the switch light no long flashing)

Thanks Pete. I'll check the speaker as soon as I can, hopefully in the next week, then if all okay I'll purchase 1-2 sensors and check them.
If the speaker is not working would this cause the fault code on its own?

No the speaker will not generate that fault code.
Infact a faulty speaker does not generate a fault code.
The first time reverse is selected you should get an error tone from speaker.
You can try unplugging the front connector. As long at you are sure its the front.

Thinking about it I do get a long beep when the car goes though its initial checks when I turn the ignition on, and this beep is from the rear speaker. After this initial beep there are no other noises, just the LED flashing on the dash button.
When I put the car in reverse I don't get any beeps at all, not the first time or any other time.

Oh well if you are sure the beep is from the rear, the speaker works.

I've just checked and the long beep on ignition is from the rear speaker so that works.
I've also just accessed the PDC module and removed the middle connector which I believe is for the front sensors (not fitted). I'm still getting the same beep on start up and nothing when I put the vehicle in reverse.
I've also checked the fuse but all good.
The fact that the beep is from the rear speaker, not the front, does this imply the issue is with the rear sensors, or does that not make any difference?
I'll get a meter from work and check the power, etc, hopefully this week.

If your car is configured for rear only. That's where the beeps should only come from

Thanks Pete, I thought that may be the case but will always defer to expert knowledge.

Reading other threads there is some mention of the sensors 'clicking' when in reverse.
I have had the D3 in reverse with the parking brake off, just with a foot on the brake to hold the car, and none of the sensors are making any clicking noise.
Does this help with a diagnosis?

I think it just confirms a problem with power to the sensors caused by a short
