I hadn't even thought of it until now.
Never used to be like this years ago just used to fit and then drive.
You would have thought that vehicle is fitted with roof rails and you wanted to take advantage of whats fitted then you could without informing insurance?? Belts, oil pump casing and water pump by Flack

if you think about it as adding £1K worth of kit and leaving it permanently on the car … if someone nicked it you'd be claiming for it.

I notified my insurers (A-Plan), it's more for completeness and any potential issues in the future rather than increasing the premium.
You wouldn't want anything stolen off the roof rack if you hadn't told them about it. 1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8

RiverBlanche - that’s a very good point.
A colleague was stopped by the Police, had his car confiscated and charged for having no insurance because his insurer failed to renew his policy despite a clear verbal instruction to just that. Took endless calls until they pulled the recording of the phone call. Then weeks of wrangling and checking with the authorities that it had been corrected.
If they can get that wrong then failure to record a minor change is equally likely to be denied unless you can pinpoint the time & date of the call. Current : Discovery 4 HSE (2012 spec)
