Done around a 1000 miles in D5 last week and still impressed with it. Averaged around 35mpg including some 'spirited motorway driving' (showing the in a BMW 116i how well a D5 goes mid-range when the thinks he will 'brake test' us after cutting us up so many times). Like for like usage in the D4 would have got me 30'ish mpg and the D5 certainly felt quicker, mid-range especially so.
It really is RR level of comfort and noise suppression. Passenger in back (D3 owner) did say he didn't like those seats as they are/felt lower.
The D5 feels a whole lot bigger than my last D4 I have to say (but not driven a D3/4 for maybe 3 years or more now?).
SWMBO loved it but struggled to get in it without the suspension being lowered
One thing that threw me was the roof sun-blinds auto-closing in daylight and then auto opening on start-up. Got in first few times thinking "I don't remember closing them". Didn't even know that feature existed

How does it compare to the RRS, particularly seating position? I don't like the high door line of the Evoke, is the RRS better? Is the ride better in the RRS than the D5? DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

It feels higher than RRS seating position. SWMBO has an Evoque and the waist-line is fairly high on that, but not an issue to either of us, but not noticed it as an issue in either RRS or the D5.
The D5 I have been using has 22" rims (option) on and I have to say not found any issue on ride comfort whatsoever. Was majority of motorway and 'A' road usage but they ain't the best road surfaces anywhere anymore
My last RRS was on 21" inch rims (standard) and, again, I never once thought the ride was harsh or hard, etc. I wouldn't pay my own hard-earned for 22" rims as never had a problem with 'standard' size on any car I've had but I think 20" is a minimum size required to 'fill arches' these days on the bigger JLR products.
I never venture off-road unless it's across some muddy path/access short drive of necessity or occasional UK snow weather so no decision required by me for those circumstances.

I had another look / sit in a D5 on Friday at the Royal Windsor Horse Show. The rear seats are definitely smaller/lower than those in my RRS1 (and from memory the D4).
Also sat in the new FFRR Phev. It was in AB trim and was simply fabulous inside in either the front or the back. The fully electric rear seats could be adjusted "just so" - it's probably the only vehicle in which I would be happy to spend a long drive sitting in the back. Not so the D5. I was in a main dealers today. I sat in the D5 and I sat on a FFRR. That’s the big difference. You feel cocooned in a D5, as you do in most modern cars, with a high "waistline", smallish glass area and centre console.
So I still hold the opinion that the closest to the “Command” driving position and all round visibility of the D3/4 is the FFRR.
I’ll have a D5 for 3 days next month, so will comment further then. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

S'funny but I didn't feel the same thing at all. Both felt similarly easy to see out of. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Intersting. For me, the all round visibility is noticeably superior in the FFRR in comparison to the D5 or DS for that matter. Especially around the rear and C pillar. Due I guess to the lower waistline, larger glass area and lower/narrower C pillar.

My right elbow tells me that the waistline level of the D5 is comparable with the D4's ...because it sits on the top of the door card in very much the same fashion...(btw window switches are better placed too).
When the FFRR is compared to the D5 in this respect it should also be compared to the D4 .....as I see it the FFRR was always had the more lofty sitting position of the two.

I went straight from my D4, to the D5 to the FFRR within 10 minutes or so. IMO, the FFRR felt most like the D4 when it came to the seating position and visibility. The windscreen appears smaller in the D5 compared to the D4 and FFRR. That may well be due to the angle of the screen in the D5, rather than actual measurements though.
For me the D5 feels much more like sitting in a modern car, albeit one that's high of the ground. Which is probably what the vast majority of people are familiar with and want. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

There's a challenge; I'm going to try this on the way home tonight and see if there's any seating position in the D5 that means my elbow rests on the door in the same way that it did in the D4 and does in the FF. 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

I appreciate it's a bit unscientific... but where elbows and arms sit is of great importance for comfort I think I have said before that the armrests in the D5 are almost invalidated by the bigger cubby lid ...seats and headrest I personally find are far more comfortable.
Interestingly:
The front headroom (with pano roof) in the D5 is 1.3cm higher than the FFRR
The rear headroom (with pano roof) in the FFRR is 1.1cm higher than the D5

Surely it is the measurement from the top of the door to the roof that matters, not the seat to the roof? DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

For me, but maybe not others, the armrests in the D5 and to a slightly lesser extent the FFRR are uncomfortable to use. So as such are useless.
The quoted max headroom figures are interesting. I have no problem with the headroom in either the D5 or FFRR. The door aperture on the D5 is restrictive for me though. I have to bend and twist a bit more to get in and out of the D5 or I scrape my head 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE
