Phone call today from my dealer - we can offer you a new car at cost - what we pay Land Rover for it - we can offer you a good price for yours as its a desirable car for us..... come in and have a chat etc, etc....
But if I was to change I can't make up my mind what model to get - still don't like the Disco5 - but may be OK in black with a black pack - ? FFRR too big and expensive and has Range Rover on the front - posy and likely to get vandalised
Defender taking for ever to appear - and would it have the option of air suspension? Cant see a hybrid D5 on the horizon either.... and don't start me on diesel......??
41yr old son just changed management jobs from Vauxhall to Volvo - so may get a good deal there on an XC90 - but don't like the look of them much
Maybe I'll just keep what I've got.... for a while anyway to see what pans out in the next couple of years..... 2016MY Discovery HSE - Black
2009MY Toyota Land Cruiser (Lc4) - Black

A choice between a new D5, or an XC90?That’s an easy one; hang on to the D4 and wait until something obviously better comes along
The Volvo might still be better looking than a ‘5, but it’s a bit too ordinary and Estate car like to properly replace a ‘4.
It’s significant that they’ll sell you a ‘5 at cost, with the prospect of getting your (very nice) ‘4 back. It says a lot! 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4
2017 to date: FFRR SDV8
2023 to date: 2 x FL2 as “second” cars 🙄
2021 to date: Hinckley built ‘14 Triumph Trophy 1200
2022 to date: Hinckley built ‘14 Triumph Trophy 1200 & sidecar!

The XC60/40 is a nice looking car with a lot of stuff as standard that you’d pay for extra for with LR and their reliability/customer services is streets ahead. No brainier to be honest.

I can’t say that I really noticed that in the 3 x V70’s that I drove around 250,000 miles in during the 7 years before I owned LR’s. The reliability was no worse or better, but some of the design issues were laughable (having to book the car in to get headlamp bulbs changed!) and some of the dealership experiences were not good at all. Plus, when providing service loaners, Volvo make some real nasties to provide as service loan cars (my first Volvo garage even used to provide Ford Ka’s before they closed down ). 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4

The Volvo is about as ugly as the D5, only saving grace is it blends into obscurity so well. I plan to stick with the D4 for a while as I am really stumped about what to replace it with, only one I like at the moment is the RRS. Joined the BMWX5 45e group

I was in my local LR dealer picking some bits up for my D3. There was a D5 in black with the black pack and I have to say it looked really good. I wasn't a fan of the back to start with but it has grown on me now. Not that it matters as I won't be able to afford one until it is the same age as my D3.

I'm bowled over with the D5 and receive gushing comments from all that see it in the flesh, but it's not for everyone, so for those who just can't get over their hang ups, a step down to a lesser capable vehicle like a Volvo is perfectly understandable

D5 is definitely growing on me. Took an XC90 for a test drive, just really didn’t impress me. Neither did an XC60 rental, which before getting it I thought would be great. That was the previous model to be fair....
If you live the D4, stick with it. If not, go test drive both the D5 and XC90, that will help. King of the typo.
MY11 D4 5.0 V8, Bournville, lots of goodies!
Now departed: '85 RR Vogue, '94 D1, '95 D1, '70 SIIA, '97 D1, '04 D2a. All V8, except for the SIIA - but that drank as much petrol anyway!

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

I still have terrible hang ups DG.
I’m still clinging on to the outmoded idea of cars being well designed and good looking. How do I overcome this? 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

XC60 and 90 rear ends are like artwork compared to the D5 - especially the lights.

Stick with the D4 and an extended warranty and keep everything crossed that they'll pay out if required.
That at the moment is my next move.
Really want a petrol next and whilst the rather 'odd ball' looks of the D5 wouldn't put me off totally I'm afraid the £60k+ price tag has!!
Range Rover Sport would be my preference but again is a bit pricey.
A lot cheaper just to stick with my D4.
It must be an age thing as it will be the first time in living memory I've made a decision on a car with my head rather than my heart Discovery 4 HSE

You seemed to manage it for the 3 Freelanders you had, what was the trick then?

Ive had four or five of each marque..
The Volvos destroy the land rovers for reliability and build quality, however, a Land Rover is a Land Rover so I always go back! D3 07 SE - still going strong
D3 07 HSE - gone to car heaven
FL1 - gone to Romania
D3 05 HSE - gone to a divorce diet
D1 V8 manual - gone but not forgotten
RR Classic - gone to car heaven
Jeeps, Lexus, X-trails... Too many to name..
