Insurance around £1k
Just getting the renewal quotes for the D4.
On a price comparison website, I can get cover for circa £500. Going to the specialists to get off-road cover puts the price up to £900 - £1250. I do a bit of green laning and very occasional proper stuff (once or twice a year).
It is also getting harder to find a company which will quote me for higher mileage - 15,000 per annum. NFU is the only one so far, but also the most expensive quote. Lancaster will only give me insurance for up to 12,000 miles.
Is off-roading really so expensive?

Ah insurance... I can never fathom how they work out prices
I've been with Elephant and Admiral (same company) for many years and always had very reasonable quotes that cover all my needs
Last year I looked into Heritage insurance as they claim to be enthusiasts run for enthusiasts, supply a free tracker that was getting good reviews and offered owners club / forum discounts
Without a word of a lie it was more than twice the price
They didn't even try to match it for some reason 2013 Discovery 4 HSE Lux | 2001 Defender 90 TD5 | 2007 Prodrive RB320
Ah insurance robing scumbags had my TD5 with aviva but when I got my RRS it went up £350 when I asked why they said "it's a high performance vehicle" NO IT'S NOT IT'S A DISCOVERY 3 IN A POSH FROCK said I and besides I'm 62 years old not an 18 yro boy racer. gave SAGA a ring and got better cover for £400 less Land Rovers don't leak they just mark there spot

Regarding off-road cover - over here you can drive on bush tracks and as long as they are on a map, they are a gazetted road so technically not "off road". I leave my cover as road use only and mention that it will go on gazetted roads in the bush. The insurers seem happy with it and haven't had any rediculous quotes.

If you are on a byway or metalled road then its not off road. Also Green flag will recover you from such tracks.Dave
