AdBlue is included in the service plan, but they insist that they can only top up with a little bottle each time, or you have to book 2 slots and the wait is 8 weeks, blah blah, so it's had 2 trips for a top up since the last service. We do about 12k a year
Anyway. as it is due a service in about 6 weeks and I intend to force them to fill the thing up, I thought I'd top it up with a little 1.89 litre bottle myself. I even bought the LR genuine part
3 days and many trips later, the range hasn't increased and now the warnings are getting more threatening

Something funny going on.
I usually record the mileage left before needing to top up with AdBlue when I refuel; here are my results:-
Odometer Miles to run
before top-up
19,208 14,166
20,195 12,862
20,566 12,551
20,795 12,302
21,025 11,992
21,308 11,743
21,873 11,184
22,175 10,950
22,399 10,749
22,617 10,514
22,855 10,252
23,069 9,941
23,257 8,817
23,577 9,320
23,918 8,840
24,279 8,833
25,023 7,953
25,345 7,642
25,643 7,207
25,911 7,083
You will see that sometimes the mileage left before needing to top up hardly decreases between refuelling. I can't recognise a pattern in AdBlue consumption though.
I too do about 12k miles p.a., and have not needed to top up between annual services. I would raise the issue with your dealer under warranty.

First service I had Adblue to spare, but they didn’t fill it, after the service it said I had a range of 12000, needless to say it needed topping up before the next service. This service they brimmmed it, came back with a range of 16400.
We’ve found at work we seem to use more Adblue in the winter, but it could be the fuel, used Esso all through winter at work, 20L of Adblue was only lasting 4K, through the summer when using BP was getting 10k on 20L of Adblue, now back on BP already done 3K and the gauge hasn’t moved

That is not right. They should brim it each time. That's what they have done on mine.
1L is not a lot of Adblu. The tank takes 17L . Gary

Big Dan, your Dealer is talking rubbish or being lazy.
There is nothing to stop you (or them) brimming the tank.
If it was filled at the last service it should last about 16000+ miles and shouldn't then need filling until the next service. Mine was filled at its first service and again at its second and is still showing over 12000 miles range remaining which will last until its next service in December.
Save yourself the hassle of going to the Dealer buy a 10 litre or similar container from a petrol station and fill it yourself, it works out at about £1 per litre or less and is easy to do as the containers come with a filler nozzle.

Agree, the stealer is being lazy and taking advantage of swmbo
At the last service (it's first) they "forgot" to put any in
So she had to take it back and they "refilled it", the range went up to about 5k
"It takes a while for the range to reset" apparently
She took it back when the light came on and they "filled it up" and the range went back up to 5k
She asked if they'd filled it up and they said it was policy that they only top up, not fill up, otherwise it needed to be booked in, 8 weeks wait and other nonsense
Range is down to 545 miles now, so I put in the 1.89 litres in and the range hasn't changed
They are going to regret fobbing off swmbo as I'm less forgiving of moronism 2003 Discovery 2 V8 GS

My D4 was in for its second service a few weeks ago, and as I've got the service plan which includes Ad Blue, I assumed they would top it up. But no.
So I rang them up to complain and their first answer was that there is no way to check the level of the Ad Blue, so you have to wait for the warnings to come up. Come on, if you're going to lie to a customer, you have to do that, and he did concede that you can indeed check the level very easily through the dash service menu.
Then he tried to say that JLR don't include the Ad Blue check on the service checklist and "we're still working out how to service the new Ad Blue models". New? Mine is 2 years old, Ad Blue was brought in several years ago.
Then he said the technicians are paid for the number of services they do, and as Ad Blue isn't on the precious JLR checklist, this would slow them down and reduce their income.
He did say we could just drop in and they would fill it up, no need to wait. I couldn't get him to comprehend that this will lead to less efficiency for his workforce (having to take technicians off a job when a customer drops in) and is poor customer service.
I emailed their Head of Business to say how unhappy I am, but no reply by email or phone. So, no marks for Stratstone in Aylesbury and we'll be going elsewhere.
There story has a happier ending. We phoned Lookers to book it in and they said their Jaguar franchise could do that, and that Jag dealer is round the corner from us, so we have now found a much quicker way of getting this done, and no money going to Stratstone. MY16 D4 Graphite in Loire Blue

Is the inaccuracy of the Ad Blue range down to the relatively low consumption rate (c. 1,000 miles per litre) so unless the gauge is very accurate, the remaining range will fluctuate. MY16 D4 Graphite in Loire Blue

I had my second service on my D4 done in February and the service guy made a point of telling me that they had topped up the adblue as part of the service.

Be careful of ‘brimming’ the adblue tank, as they use an ultrasonic sensor. If there isn’t an airspace in the top of the tank, it’ll read empty!
I have already had to drain some Range Rover sport and evoque tanks due to this.
When filling correctly, using SDD, it displays the quantity needed to fill to the correct amount. This should be added, and no more. Sometimes a couple of attempts are needed to get the total amount right.
I suspect that, as this is a bit time consuming, some places don’t do it fully.
I remember reading a service message on Topix stating that dealers should not use the small bottles, as it’s a waste of money, and should use the corrrect filling tank special tool.
Regards
Steve

It does take a while for additions to register. But it isn't an accurate gauge, I read somewhere you need to add at least 5lt to register a change. If the OP added 1.89lt you won't see the range increase, it just won't go down as quick.
Franky I don't see why people bother with the dealer for this even when its supposedly included in the service plan. Multiple trips to the dealer for a bit of adblue here and there probably cost you more in fuel, hassle and stress than buying it yourself.
I purchased 2 x 20lt online for peanuts, filled up myself = no stress or hassle.

SDD (Symptom Driven Diagnostics) is JLR's diagnostic program accessed through OBD port not available to the general public AFAICT.
Can one do this with IIDTOOL BT; as I am now concerned not to "brim" the Adblue tank.

Not at the moment. I have asked Pat for it on the 'wish list'
As the tank holds about 17 ltrs you can always put a lot less in. so if you have a low fluid warning, put in ten to be sure for example
