whining noise when pushing gas pedal |
|
Hello everyone!
So I have this whining, high pitch noise coming from LR3 when speed>30MH and I am pushing the gas pedal. The moment I remove my foot from the gas it goes away. This noise sounds metallic to my ears. And it comes from the front half of the car. I think I can also feel a very subtle vibration on the steering wheel as well, which I think is coming from the same source that produces the whining noise. Both wining noise and vibration on the wheel are very subtle, but noticeable.
So far I flushed power steering fluid (which was very dark and burned) and have new fluid in the system, replaced fluids of both front and back differentials, as well as the transfer case. But the whining noise is still there.
As a test, I put the car in N (neutral) and give it a good gas, but no sign of whining noise.
So what I am dealing with here? Bad transfer case? Bad front differential? Or a bad hub bearing or power steering pump? Any idea would be very appreciated!
By the way, this is a 4.4 liter, automatic LR3 (US model).

Thanks Mannesson for your reply.
I read your thread and watched your youtube, we might have a similiar issue!
One of the best, and maybe the only(?), good option left for us is to use those chassis ears and place them close to potential components that might be the source of this noise (transfer case, front dif, left and right front hub bearing, etc,...) and listen to them while driving in order to locate where the noise is coming from. The price tag for this system is like $100ish, and I am debating with myself whether buy it or just take the truck to my close indy Land Rover shop and let them do the diagnosis.

Can it be heard by someone standing on the side of the road as the vehicle passes by @30 mph?

I don't know, haven't tried that! I have to say that the whining noise is subtle, but it is for sure there! I am not sure it is detectable from outside too or not.

.
Have you tried driving it without Mrs LRthreeee in the passenger seat? Heaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.
