I wish I had taken photo's of this now but was new to the D3 and didn't
I used wood as its what I had, its covered anyway....
In fairness it could be deemed as a pain, I didnt want to pay a pro to fit it when I knew I could have a go first. D4 HSE....Probably, but not quite decided yet.

See the thread I referred to for fitting the Alpine monitor in lieu of the 2nd row interior light cluster, you can pickup on its mountings, no wood or dodgy fixings, use the standard clips into the roof rib as used by the light/aircon controls panel.... Cheers

Pretty neat, I prefer my install as it required no holes etc in the roof lining...and I don't have rear a/c so no controls that need leaving exposed to use. Cheers

Thanks Wiggs!
The unit is an Alpine PKG-2000 and prices seem to vary between £500 - £600, depending on where you look.
The whole job, supply & install cost me £950 inclusive.
Probably not the cheapest option available, but the quality of the Alpine kit and the craftsmanship of the installation are excellent.

Hi Wiggs, to compare I used the Alpine PKG-1000 unit which requires a separate DVD source but retails for £350-400ish. Both come with the deep mounting flange (although I didn't need mine) that can be cut to follow the roof contour. I used the VEBA 6-disc DVD/CD changer which goes for approx £200 I think. Both version of the monitor contain a built-in IR transmitter for IR headphones (which I store in one of the rear side cubbies in the boot). Cheers

Just so you know what to expect if you go the Alpine route, the PKG-2000 just requires power and ground at the monitor as it has a built-in single DVD drive). The PKG-1000 has a remote black box (mine is under the front passenger seat) to which you run source(s), power and ground, this is then linked to the monitor by an 8mm dia cable, this I ran quite easily up the pass B pillar, outside of the curtain airbag and across the roof to the monitor. I then fed the interior lights built-in to the monitor from the existing interior light feed (this should be the same for either Alpine version I would think).
Happy fitting! Cheers

I have the Rosen and the display I think is the best Ive seen so far in a factory installation. However is the sound quality is the worst. I do not understand why? With the headphones is excelent, but through the radio speakers the videos or concerts sound with very poor quality.
Have anyone attacked this issue?

Have you ensured that the volume is turned down on the rosen unit and that you turn the volume up on your car stereo? It might be that the aux input doesnt like the strength of the signal.
